@Giles I'm curious what you mean when you say " I struggled"? Maybe I didn't explain my dilemma properly.it was the fit in the waist that was my biggest issue. After trying on the jeans several times, I realized  the thigh did fit. After careful consideration I decided the waist was way too small for me. I sized up with the pronto. The size I ordered measured 1.25 bigger.

      Maybe so. Maybe not

Well, it must be me who is not understanding.  You said I believe, that they fit perfectly in the waist pre soak. Yes?  You have had a number of people chime in (possibly me included) saying that they will be fine once they have shrunk/stretched. So either they don't fit perfectly after all, or you don't trust the advice given to you, or you've changed shape.

But as I have also said, your jeans, your body, your money - you need to be 100% happy,,,,

I was hasty in saying the waist fit perfectly. After a few more try ons my opinion changed. 2 jobs and a 10
Month old and a serious lack of sleep leaves me cloudy.  i realize all These questions and doubts of mine are sophomoric. But it's a learning process. I appreciate all the help from everyone. Have a good day

            Yo guys

I am planning to buy a pair of 717 Chinos, i was wondering can i get 2 cm (0.8") shrinkage in the front rise if i super hot soak?

Of that specific pair the rise measures 29.5 cm (11.61").

Because i don't live around the corner here i will order them from the japanese Iron Heart site. Do you think they are willing to measure a pair for me or is that something japanese shops don't do?

            Cheers

That much shrink in the rise can be asking for a lot.  The 717s come unwashed so everything will shrink up to some degree or another.  Personally I would go for it and if you only get a quarter inch of shrink that extra half inch of rise won't really be an issue anyway.

Soaking in its own does not cause shrinkage, you need to agitate too.  I do in hottest water I can put my hands in….

Yes I plan on agitating too. My hands can take about 125 degrees F. Been carrying pizzas trays for years. Hot stuff. Muchos gracias amigo.

@Giles - On average, how often do you see 'rogue' pairs of IH jeans with thigh measurements greater than expected? Thanks! Like @zatenm , I wish many of the IH jeans for size 30 had a bit room for thighs.

Size variance from the mean varies from model to model, denim to denim, workshop to workshop, seamstress to seamstress.  In broad terms, the heavier and stiffer the denim is, the larger variation we get from the mean, but we don't log that sort of information….

Happens all the time and very quickly if you don't oil the patch.
