THIS THING IS AWESOME.  I got mine yesterday…. couldn't believe how heavy it was.  Makes the last batch of IH thermals look like tshirts.  This one is going to get a ton of use.  If you like to wear thermal shirts don't sleep on this.  It'll be a staple.

I would jump all over this but I've already got two black IH thermals and one black 1501 so I don't see a need for another black thermal/sweatshirt.  I think I know the answer to this already…. ;)... but I'll ask anyways, is the 1700 different enough from the "regular" IH thermals and 1501 to justify another black cut and sewn item my closet?

it's totally different.  i also own the other thermals.  this one is way more substantial and feels way more tough.  I feel like overall it's going to hold it's shape better than the others as well.

Just picked up the black XL. It is a classic.

It sits well with the IHJ-48.

Would love to see one of these in an army olive colour-way.

I just did a quick audit and found out I have the 1213 in black, the 1501 in black and the 1600 in black… but not the 1301! Based on your reasoning that means I can have one of these, no? Too late anyway, just ordered one  😉

Can someone who owns an IH henley and this do a comparison for me with the collar buttoned on the henley? I am hoping the neck might be a little wider and more relaxed.

I have a small in the henley. But would love to see small and medium, if you have the time! Thanks, Sam.

I'll squeeze it in. About to head into the studio now. So a Small henley next to a small and medium IHTL-1700?

Apologies for the lack of editing @sabergirl …

I think the biggest difference is the depth of the neck hole rather than the width but they do have a good bit of stretch in the neck hole. Hope this helps.

Depth is good, too. Really I just can't stand tight neck holes, which eliminates a lot of knitwear and tees from my list. These look a little looser than the 1600…Now I'm even more tempted! Thanks for the pics.

Love my XL! I wear large t-shirts. And XL button downs from IH perfectly. This is a nice fitting thermal, and comfy!

The neck hole is just right. Close enough to keep cold out but comfy.

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway  🙂

I know the run-off on shirts are no problem to cut off.
Can I cut off the run-off on these without the stitching unraveling any further?
                                Especially at the sleeves.

it's 22 degrees F here today and i wore this guy with only a polartec vest while i cleared snow off my roof for a few hours.  was plenty warm.  this is a GREAT piece.  @Giles if you make this in unbleached cotton i'd buy it in a hearbeat.
