      @Chris:

The only thing I can think of is pounding that heel in to see if it brings those back together. If we sand the edges it might get rid of the gap on the midsoles.

They are glued and sewn all the way through, so they definitely won't come apart:)!

Thanks! @Giles  has suggested a good oiling (which they are in need of anyway) to heal the leather and make it water retardant again. I was wondering whether I should stuff the gap with epoxy resin before doing this? Any thoughts?

You can put our bee seal plus on them to waterproof the leather!

I am sure there is something you could use to seal them. I would only put on a small amount though. It will more than likely change the color of the midsole though.

Thanks Chris. Colour change is no problem, part of the process. Oiling would have been necessary at some point anyway. I'll do that first and see how they respond. If the gap persists then epoxy resin should seal it. Appreciate you chipping in.

What you're saying is, you don't anticipate it being a big problem?

I've rinsed the midsoles with a white vinegar/water solution to get any residual salt out and a good stuffing with mink oil seems to have helped matters some. I'll keep an eye on them.

anyone know what last this boot was built on?

Also what thread color that is?

and if this leather option can be requested when building a boot by them? I want to build something like this boot with just a couple modifications.

You'll have to ask for it in the comments for your build, or get in touch with them. I got in touch with Chris and asked him to build a Packer on the 9109 and it was totally painless.

I've done two custom builds and through the process learned there's not much they won't do. I like the idea you're shooting for too.

I'm looking at a new pair of custom Boss and want a lighter coloured leather so it's between the vegtan and the rough out burlap. I know the burlap will pick up indigo and that's fine, the vegtan will too I'm sure, but if anyone can chip in with knowledge on how they do with water (it rains a lot where I live) then I'd appreciate it. Do these leathers pick up water stains easily?

                                  Thank you, sir.

If I go vegtan I think I'll oil them straight out of the box. Should help with repelling water, no?

I'm leaning heavily towards the burlap but there's a Japanese made pair of boss with the harness strap on IG that I can't stop staring at…

Oh cool. That's what I'd consider the totally acceptable result of using them. I was mire concerned about big ugly stains. Cheers dude.

You could oil or lp them straight away and that would likely reduce spotting. I've thought about a few other builds but there's a Burlap RO Boss that keeps hitting my feeds…is it bad that I'm talking about another build and currently have one due to complete this week?

Perfectly normal mate…I've had about 5 browser tabs open to the Wesco build page ever since I specced my first pair a year ago.
