Strictly speaking I'd be a W35 which would give me tight-ish thigh. So I'd do the same and go for the W36. Slightly more wiggle room and higher rise. Very tempting.

I'm a 36 in 634s ..top button is undone at the moment worn with belt  (need to start at the gym again) so the 38 777xhs is perfect no discomfort love em

I read in an interview that IH washes the "starch" out of the jeans. Is this true for the 777xhs? Do they do this to prolong the life of the jeans? Also done to the flagship 21 oz I assume. If this is true, why do people insist on not washing for so long to "save" the starch in the jeans for better fading?

Giles (or someone else) will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that both the signature 21 oz and the 25 oz XHS denim are sanforized, but unwashed.  That being the case, there may be some sizing/starch left in the denim from the manufacturing process.  Leaving it in will cause additional abrasion in high friction areas, which will produce higher contrast over time.  Some people add starch to their jeans for exactly this reason.

The downside of those high contrast fades is that the fabric wears out more quickly.  Waiting longer between washes has the same effect- accumulated sweat, dirt, dead skin, etc. are abrasive and rub away indigo more quickly.  Obviously, all sorts of other things factor into the process- lifestyle, weather, frequency of wears and so forth- but each person has to assess which is more important, longevity or greater fades.  Ultimately, the jeans reflect the individual owner, and no two pairs are exactly the same.  That's what makes this interesting…
