My friend had similar issues with his Harley Softail Custom - he was in flight school in Columbus, MS and came and visited me in Mobile (about 3-4 hours away) - bike broke down 1.5 hours away from his house on his return trip in the rain. Luckily Harley has a good Roadside Assistance program, and good warranty stuff from what I have been told.

My business partner does lament selling his old Sportster - although he would say something to the affect of "Dues that Love riding Harley's also have to love working on Harley's" [emoji23]

If I ever get a motorcycle it would be a Triumph - simply because of the aesthetics but I also prefer their sound over the "I hate my eardrums" of most Harley's, especially once you turn them into a "screaming eagle" or whatever HD is calling their upgraded pipes hear days ha

@MP the Harley Sportster Roadster would be worth checking out. It came out at the same time as the Lowrider S, and has a similar ethos.

That said, I'm obviously biased towards the Thruxton. 😛

@natehate that looks like an interesting project.

Selling my HD 48 was one of the stupidest things i've ever done. Regret it almost daily.
I personally never had any issues with the mechanics of the bike. I did almost 12,000 miles on my 48 and it never gave up on me… must not have been riding it right  😉

I"ve had 2 Harley's over the last 12 years, rode them as hard as I could, and never a single problem. I must be doing something wrong. Did you know that 90% of all Harley's are still on the road today-The other 10% made it home. Doh!!! @Sam -So sorry to hear you sold the 48,it was a really cool bike.

I've been doing more research and it seems the error codes were likely from a poor electrical connection or bad battery, so nothing terminal (pun not intended).  I haven't had a chance to ride a Roadster yet, but that's the other Harley on the list.  The Triumph Bobber is another interesting proposition, which should be on sale soon. I sat on one at Moto Expo and it felt pretty comfortable.

Saw this on Netflix and really liked it. Four guys ride really old fucked up Harley choppers from San Francisco to Brooklyn. Done documentary style. A little over an hour.

Kind of looks like an S&S Knucklehead engine in a Sportster frame. Pretty cool. Are you in Japan?

I've never been one for sports bikes but i've changed tack over the last year or so. Saw this on the Honda website and fell in love and swiftly got my heart broken when i found out the price… £138,000

                                    oh well.

I'm thinking of adding the R nine T to the garage.  My local dealership has a couple 2016's and they took 2k off the price.  I'd prefer the 17 with the adjustable front suspension, but the price savings would be sweet.  I've always wanted an airhead.

The Roland Sands brown seat would be a must.

@Sam the new Fireblade looks really nice. There are also rumours of a "cheaper" Honda V4 sportbike for next year, but it's going to cost an awful low. I've heard £40K or £50K floated.

@summ3rhays a number of R nineT riders have upgraded their bikes using the Wilbers forks and shocks. There are a few threads on forums about it, if you want to go digging.

If I was buying a bike to upgrade, I'd compare the cost of getting a 2016 R nineT with the upcoming Racer. I think that it might work out slightly cheaper, and I know you're a fan of the old Ducati Sports Classic…
