Seriously though, I'm thinking 14oz for summer days, 21oz for summer evenings. More importantly, I don't think the wife can tell the difference between a type I and a type III…

You could also cut it off, like it can be seen on some old Levis. Might look better than trying to remove it without any damage, especially as the OD might leave some spots in a different colour.
