IHXB01-25 cut, but you get the idea.

Not really the look I go for, but I gotta admit that looks pretty awesome.  It's badass, and definately has character.  Love the black 574s.  New Balance are the best.  Well done.

That being said, heavily tailoring cuts is also something that's a bit controversial. Personally, I think that while hemming $400 jeans is normal, tapering them is too radical and drastic. Haraki-san and Giles work like artists on the designs and the result is their vision. Modifying the cut just means this is the wrong cut for you, and you're fucking with what was intended. Obviously they are your jeans and it's entirely up to you what you do with them. If it was me and I wasn't happy with the cut, I'd put them up for sale and re-invest the proceeds in the cut I wanted, before tapering what is intended to be.

Neph speaks the truth. I agree with these guys, hack off some length and you'll love them from the calf down too. I remember wearing my 25oz busters to the mall and I couldn't get the fly down to take a leak. Wrestling with your crotch at a urinal earns you tons of odd stares.

Next time, perhaps better use a stall for some more privacy…...I've long resorted to that.  😉

Keep your jeans on–-and let nothing come in between you and the denim !

I have to respectfully disagree. What the artist intended is a silly notion, at least in my mind, when it is a garment to be worn and everyone has a different body.

Obviously people should do as they please. I would never change a cut personally.  I love the idea of finding the perfect cut for my body type and for my part I'm paying for Haraki-san's designs as much as anything else. I'm not wearing the famous 666 cut anymore if I've changed the entire concept of the design from slim straight to slim tapered. If I want a high rise, fitted top block and a taper I'd find a manufacturer with that design in their portfolio.

But that's just me and I admit to liking the conceit of artist's intent and authentic design. Some people chop and channel classic cars, others wouldn't dream of it.

This is an interesting point of debate. The fact is, IH is Haraki-sans masterpiece. His craft and lifes work. To that end I could understand if offense were taken. That said, I also agree that if you buy a Rembrandt and decide to draw stick figures on it, it's your business to do so. Is it in good taste, maybe not, but it is yours to do as you please with

I have tapered every pair of raw jeans apart from one which I own or have owned. I am constantly searching for that perfect fit which needs no alterations but in the mean time I see no problem with "tweaking" great jeans to make them perfect for me.

I never use 'brandnew heavy denim with button fly' for an extensive pub-crawl … that's a nightmare!

Well, avoiding a "gotta pee" situation out of one's privacy altogether when coping with snugly fitting heavy denim is also a possible solution.

Seeing your point, Finkster…..LOL, but what about if you just can't imagine wearing anything else than your brand new jeans, which give you pain and you love them (or it), and you're booked to go out drinking with mates? That's what I'd call a real dilemma  😉

When I bought fresh heavy denim, I give that gear a 'breaking in phase'. I wear the stuff only for work, hiking, shopping, etc.
For excessive nightlife activities, I prefer worn-in jawns (or denim with zip fly)  🙂

Zip fly is a never ever, absolute no-no for me. But each to his own.

In appreciation of real fine denim, I feel we don't differ all that much after all. When I obtain a new (in my case, most often second hand anyway) pair that I really like, I find it next to impossible to wear anything else…
