These are US sizes right?  so if I have 9 1/2 in RedWings or Alden Indy I should be ok with that size?

I ordered the Viberg service boot here once, but that´s an 8 1/2, not US size (UK?) at that time I believe

Yes, Wescos are US-sized. You can use the same size in these, as you use in RW (except Chukka and Pecos) for example. If your feet runs wider or yo like wider shoes perhaps an E width is recommended.

I ordered the E width, which was the only option in Burgundy leather.
I have D width in RedWings, but I have rather wide feet. I hope they ´re not too wide 😞

I think the E should be OK.  I decided to make only E in this boot,  as the last is slightly narrow.  We can, of course, make to a D width if you need, at no extra charge (but an extra 12 week wait)…..

Thanks Giles!  I read through some earlier threads about the narrow last, so I think it will work out just fine!

To me, that looks like a hole from an errant needle/missed stitch. Thus, not normal at all. It is small, but would likely bother me since water can get in the boot there. I am imterested to see other takes on it, but to me, it is clearly a defect

I don't think your boots are defective.  I looked at my Wescos and saw similar marks.

First, check closely and see if it's a hole- on one of my boots, it was only a small indentation, not an actual puncture.  If it looks deep, reach inside the boot and see if you can feel anything underneath.  These are lined, so even if the hole goes through the outer layer of leather, it may not go through the liner.

Second, try and pull the quarter (the upper part with the eyelets) away from the vamp (the part covering the toe) and try to get a better look.  That hole may actually be where the stitching binds the layers, even though it's significantly offset from the visible stitching.  That's what I found on my other boot that had a hole like yours.

Either way, I think you can safely enjoy your boots for years to come.

Oh, and you might want to reach out to @Dylansboss#2, who would be able to give the most authoritative answer…

This may sound like a cop out, it's not meant to be.  These are hand made boots that will not effect the longevity one single iota.  Learn to embrace these tiny imperfections as evidence of a hand made custom item.

I’ve seen boots on the Wesco’s seconds page with similarly irrelevant aesthetic imperfections for a tiny fraction of the price. Wesco is very nice that way.

Bottom line though: They are sure to be good solid boots so if you can find happiness in them than there is no problem.
