That is interesting from a marketing point of view. I now have 5 ih westerns. But my first one was bought because of the fabric not the design. So the more westerns made, the more choice there is, the more likely that someone's first shirt will be a western.

My experience with IH is that buying new types of clothing (jeans, jackets, tees, shirts etc) is scary because I want to avoid messing up the fitting. Excellent returns policy or not, UPS between Norway->uk takes 8-9 days. So the temptation is to stick with what you know.

So when choosing what shirt to buy next, the combination of choice and the fact that I understand the fit means it's a lot easier for me to continue with westerns that risk money and time on a work shirt. So it's a kind of vicious retail circle.

It's a good thing for my wallet though. When I work out how to fit a work shirt right I'll end up with 5 of them too, in no time [emoji15]

He does release some.  IHSH-113, IHSH-98, IHSH-91 etc, but I guess they must not sell for him as well as westerns do.  Though, to be honest, they don't sell as well as westerns for me either…...

Yes, but those are chambray and hickory. Not that there is anything wrong with those fabrics (I got the dotted one and I love it) but I miss a good ol' denim workshirt on the lineup here.

I think certain colors and patterns on a shirt, or the lack thereof, lends itself better to being a work or western design. It's also contingent on the person wearing the shirt. For example, I had a difficult time conceiving that the turquoise/grey buffalo (that was recalled) would look as good, on me, in a western. So I bought a work… and will do so again when the new iteration arrives.

It's all aesthetic preference, nothing set in stone. Maybe it is simply such that westerns fit more people better, or that more people think westerns look better on them.

Good point. It struck me that the 106's and 105's (both if which I own and adore) would have been even better as work shirts. Something about the functionality of quilting and the thickness, as well as the material. I don't own any buffalo check UHF yet, but when I do I'll cop a workshirt. That was also my plan with the T/G. On the other hand, I do love snaps….

I'm all for the western shirts due to the yokes and the snaps.  I have a lot of regular shirts with buttons from before I discovered Iron Heart.

With that said, there are a few materials that work better as a work shirt than a western.  Example being the IHSH-96 indigo waffle.  Can't see that being a good western shirt.

I prefer generally the 'western' versions.
Apart from the gorgeous look and the practical snap pockets - I noticed over the years that they have the better fit by comparison.
I hate the baggy look of my -68 shirt (otherwise so beautiful  😠 ) and from the other 'work'-shirts, which I tried in my usual size.

"…we find a lot of really nice deadstock stuff, so we bought a shitload of deadstock selvedge, 6oz chambray recently. We found a lot of really nice indigo dyed hickory striped recently. In both cases we bought everything available.

So, the ... the deadstock stuff, it's great...

We are releasing a shirt in a couple of weeks that we do buy the fabric in for and you can find other articles made of the same fabric if you try hard enough. But the fabric is so good that, personally, I don't mind."
