I also should point out: I haven't noticed these being "too warm" for summer wear yet. After living in 25 oz IH denim for so long, even sleeping in it most nights, this denim seem like the perfect weight. The 21 oz sanforized seems ultra light now, the 25 oz denim washed several times seems super thick. This 21/ 23 oz denim feels just right. IH 21/23 oz denim codename: Goldielocks haha

Got mine yesterday, thumbs still sore from buttoning them. Did the old guy (I'm 62) express break in. Hot soaked them for an hour, then warm washed them, inside out, and then put them in the dryer with extra drier/fabric softener sheets and tennis balls. Thought they would have shrunk more than they did, especially with machine drying them. They're pretty comfortable today, and look amazing.–Jett

I used pliers to get the top button initially unbuttoned.  I always soak them with coins pressed into the buttonholes.  Can't remember where I saw it, but it works pretty well to get them stretched out in the beginning.

Quick fit pics after day 2… Fabric is softening a bit and I am loving these already.

Coins in the button holes… Good idea! I use Crayola marker caps because I've had to repair several button holes after wrestling with them. I also saw that someone soaks their jeans with a 2x4 cut to the smallest bearable waist measurement for insurance. Anyone attempting salt or vinegar treatment during the initial soak? I don't do it, but I'm curious if anyone else is.

*...And I'm still waiting for my UPS guy. I live 3 miles out of town, which makes me last of the stops for the day. Gotta sign for them too, ironically I am getting lots of laundry done.

It all started with a leaf…

Definitely would have tried the marker cap/coins trick at least for the top button had I known about it before.. will most certainly remember that for my next go-round!

I didn't think the buttons were that hard to button on their own. Just hard to get the 2nd to top one when cinching in my muffin top and all the flab.

I didn't know about the coins in the buttonholes trick. I just put some in mine while they're drying, who knows if it will help.

@Herman I have no idea what the salt or vinegar treatment is but it sounds like a BAD IDEA!

Vinegar and salt are both used to set dye in. Much like sodium carbonate (soda ash). They are used as a fixative to set in dyes. This is why when you buy fiber reactive dyes you should use a fixative and why when you buy the Rit dye in the grocery store it calls for copius amounts of salt. It helps the dye further permeate and bond in between the pourous fibers of fabrics.

Since the end game if most here is to net some beautiful fades… DO NOT USE VINEGAR OR SALT. Just soak them and wash of you must, and wear the f*** out of them.

I am already noticing indigo loss on the combs, after 6 hours of wear... You won't need to do much for these to fade beautifully, rather quickly.

@Giles I recall you saying somewhere that these have no post-loom processing…. Other than starch, I presume. (certain portions of the fabric felt sticky after the soak). no usual Iron Heart voodoo to retard fading. Am I correct?

@FilthyBloodJunkie  You're right about the no voodoo! I think the only IH denim that gets that is the flagship 21oz. I love that denim tho!

@superfuzz I could have sworn I read that the 25 oz. gets treated with silicone to retard fading. It's an interesting topic. Maybe it's just that the Indigo IH uses is better quality and that prolongs its color?

@FilthyBloodJunkie You might be right about the 25oz. I'm not really sure. Does it have that same amazing soft feeling as the 21oz?

It does times 10 maybe. There is really nothing else like It. After the 25 oz beats your legs into submission, during the break in, it feels like It is having sex with your legs afterwards. It feels like a combination of suede and silk after the first wash.

It feels smoother to the touch, and doesn't have the higher, (corduroy like?) ridges of of the 21 oz. I love it! I often fantasize about having a quilt made out of 25 oz denim scraps… It is so, so soft. @superfuzz

I have a fond appreciation for all of IH fabrics, so I like trying them all out. But, I already miss my favorite 25 oz MBBs.

What size are you? Maybe I can send you an old too big pair for you to enjoy?

I've been wanting a pair of the 25oz 666. Maybe once I beat these BBs into submission. I just put them on still damp, needed a pair of pliers to get the second button closed, not sure how I'm going to get the top button closed.
