It could be quite cool to organise chapters by fabric (ie duck), have a bit of a background on the process and construction of a specific piece (a case study if you will) and then pics of forum members wearing said fabric.

Would also be good to have a section or two on the other community based things that IH does…. fnC, denim carnival etc

Great thoughts and support guys, personally I think this could be a great opportunity to visualise many aspects of the brand, such as…

                  • Long term enthusiasts showcasing some more "vintage" items.
                  • How it is worn by different people in different locations around the world, including the JP crew.
                  • The social side (meet ups and travels).
                  • Production and design process.
                  • The retail operation at IHUK.
                  • Retailers in their environment.
                  • Brand evolution from denim (634's) to shirting, jackets, military inspired wear and some of the more experimental stuff (Pertex, Primaloft etc..), that other brands don't necessarily do.
                  • Collaborations (Wesco, Alexander, Viberg, Pinion, Jelado etc...).
                  • The people of Iron Heart.....basically us.

I think if we get weighed down doing something seasonal, or categorising by fabrics etc takes away from it being a visual media which encompasses Iron Heart as a brand, and what makes it so special to so many.

The budget should really come first, otherwise you've developed an idea without the money to produce it…

I'd feel pretty dumb approaching a printers or publishers and asking them to quote me for "a book", with no idea what type, size, pages, content etc… How can you get accurate costing?

Edit: Apart from which T&A has said twice that he will talk to his printers, so lets see what comes from that as a yardstick.

That is my point… You need some idea (yardstick) of costs, to set constraints, before developing the concept further.

T&A is the only one to have suggested the format and scale of publication, and although a lot have expressed interest none have put a dollar (Pound or Euro) value on their interest.

I'm honestly not trying to crash the party, I just don't want it to end at 10pm... (continued party reference, fuck yeah)

Guys, at the moment this is nothing more than an idea, a fun little thought exercise which seems to have captured the imagination of quite a few of us. It's a little early in the evening to be asking for the bill (party reference ahoy), when we just started talking about the night out.

I've asked who would be interested, people are, if we want to have a little fun exploring the idea then why not?

My wife also works with a printers and will also talk to them about a costing, but just because that information isn't available right away for 2 day old idea I don't think it should stop people from enjoying the idea, and exploring the concept.

This might happen, it might not. I think we're all adult to realise that aren't we?

                                    @Snowy:

I printed a 72 page magazine DPI/quality, archival grade thick paper hard cover book, 1 off, using adoramapix recently, cost me $150USD. (size is 8x12)

I would be using ^ (that) as a yardstick, #pages, quality, size, and cover listed. It was retail pricing and a very high quality product/result.

I'm waiting for T&A's comments on what that looks like before proceeding further. Photographs are not in A4/A3/A5 sizing, Nor Legal or Letter sizes, they're in 8x12, 6x8 etc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_print_sizes) ,which is why I listed the sizing I did. I have Sidney's book, it's lovely, but every photo in there has been edited/cropped to fit A4, instead of as was shot.

Party wise, I was the DJ truth be known, now I sit in the corner reading my kindle with earplugs in. We're the craziest bunch this way 😮

A coverstation with a local printer this morning has yielded a very reasonable unit price. I was extremely specific about quality requirements, number of pages (expected), cover and binding but to be absolutely sure I will visit them next Friday with a very nice quality book with I will use an the example of the expected standard.

More thrilling news on costing as it happens folks…

                                        i wouldn't.

the book you did was printed digital i guess. we should do real print like offset.

if you print one book, it will be quite expensive. do 1000 and the price lowers significantly.

the size of the book is determined by the master concept behind it, not only by photo formats.
