The more picures I see of the olive one, the more I like it. To bad it is just not in the budget this year. 😞

The olive is so perfect between tan and green that it works for both colors. At first I was let down that it wasn't tan, but after getting it, I'm glad it's this color.

How would you guys compare this jacket to a down one, as far as warmth goes?

                thanks!

Without having worn this particular coat, I can generally say that alpaca is feckin warm. But nothing short of self-immolation compares to high loft down for ultimate warmth.

                  Think it, be it.

Thanks.  Yeah, I'm thinking of a down jacket for winter since I already have an Aero with alpaca lining.

I wore a similar deck jacket to IH today in sub zero temp with a tee and an IHSH-30 and was fine.

If you want crazy warm and don't care about fashion, Feathered Friends of Seattle makes serious expedition grade gear. Canada Goose and Moncler make more fashionable offerings. The Flat Head has a pretty sweet down coat too.

Cheers.  Yeah, I'm looking at the Selkirk from Canada Goose.  I have a lot of Arc'teryx gear, but am looking for something a bit different.  Also looked at Western Mountaineering but I'm looking for more of a casual piece that can be versatile.  I do love this N1 though.

You won't have any problem staying warm in this jacket, unless maybe it is substantially below 0deg F. It was 7deg during my walk to work yesterday; my face and legs were cold, but overall I was comfortable thanks to this jacket.

I promised some pics with the Otter Wax worn in on the jacket.  I've worn it about 20 times since the initial waxing sessions.

Hey @Joule , loving the wax job you've done on your IHM-09.
I've waxed a couple of my Belstaff Jackets in the past, a Tourmaster 2 and a Trialmaster. it's quite easy once you get over the "I dont know what the F**K I'm doing" fear

Thanks guys!  I sort of over waxed it at first and had to brush/wipe off the extra.  I did think I fecked it up at the beginning when the wax was still so tacky.  Settled in nicely and getting some sheen on the high wear areas now.

I was a little hesitant to get an N1 because of the way people have talked up the warmth. I'm a hot-natured person in a climate with mild winters, so I was afraid that I'd be sweating in it. It's only been around 50F/10C at night lately, but winds have been high enough that I've been able to layer with my UHFs and still need to zip up. Even though there are only a couple of months a year that I can get away with wearing these, I'm glad to have them around. I really like the lined pockets compared to the 04 as well as the long pile wool.

                                      Hey Occupant,

sorry for misunderstanding, but are you saying that it's not as warm as you expected?  I keep looking at the pics and am thinking it can't be that warm.  I did order a Canada Goose selkirk and it fits great, but I wish they just wouldn't put that damn tag on the arm (douche style).

Yeah, not as warm as I anticipated, but I was actually relieved by that since my thermal needs aren't that great. Someone in the 04 thread said that layering with a UHF is something that nobody would ever need to do, but I've been doing it comfortably in windy weather that's well above freezing.

Thanks Occupant.  I'll probably get it either way.  I really like the Canada Goose Selkirk, but that damn patch on the arm ruins it for me.  I don't have a clue what UHF is beside the old TV channels (I'm old).  Anyway, I think it should be fine either way since most of my time in the cold is spent going from a car to a building.
