So I'm a bad shoe whore and was researching as usual, and came across this Japanese sneaker company. Does anyone have any info on where I can get a pair? It doesn't appear that they have any dealers in the UK, EU, or the US… Either way they are studs to be worn. If you see a pair I recommend. The little verbage I found said that they are on the level. Small batches and made in Japan...

I tried to get them for the West.  The owner is, let's say, difficult and really was pretty nasty to Sarina.  He is not interested in the non Japanese market….

No one is nasty to Sarina and gets away with it. There will be repercussions for being nasty to her!

Exactly.  I now don't actually care how amazing his products are or whether he wants to expand into the West (as the Japanese market is seriously contracting), it won't be with any involvement from me….Paula has a pair which we will sell when we can find the bandwidth to do something about it....

That's a shame about the company's attitude. I like them, they look like PF Flyers.

Yeah, big bummer @Giles. Had no idea you guys had a run-in in the past. Sorry to open that wound. Please feel free to go ahead and take down this thread if needed… thanks

Edit: Just received this email from Speedway...

                    "Hi Mike,
Thanks a lot for contacting us. Mill Reef is shutting down operations and are no longer supplying dealers with shoes. They're website I'm not sure is still be attended to or not. They may be selling the last of their stock on it. Not sure. We haven't spoken with them for a few months now. This prompted me to start producing sneakers myself which will be available in about 10 days from now. If you like Mill Reef (and haven't scored a pair yet), you may want to have a look at ours in the near future. When they go live on the web you'll be able to find them here: http://item.rakuten.co.jp/speedway-shop/c/0000000553/ As well as a few places online like Self Edge in the USA, Copley's out of Australia and Ohkoos in Korea."
                    Thanks again
                    John

No problem at all.  Sarina got married yesterday so I am sure she does not give a shit….

I was going to mention John's sneakers @Grumpy Mike  (I should be receiving mine any day now). His are double soled, unlike many… Hard to say, those Mill Reefs might be also. I expect a double vulcanized sole to be quite comfortable. The issue is that the soles and caps are tan instead of white. On the frogskin camo ones I ordered this looks great, but I think white would look better on the other models (a blue one and a white one IIRC).

                          Think it, be it.

@mclaincausey I believe John makes the Mill Reef's brand from what I gathered in the email. You are right, I believe they are double soled. Where did you get some of John's?
