I think mine stretched out to about 35" in the waist with wear. They're a size 33, so the waist started at 34".

      perfect thanks for the info!!

The 55's are effin great. For a heavyweight they're remarkably comfortable after only a few wears. Along with the Roy 02's my favorite.

                Hi,

I already own a few kickstarter denim ( Gustin, RPMWest ) and I want to buy a new jean but with better quality. 3 cut/brand get my attention : IH 1955 ; FH 3009 and Fullcount 1101.
I want to have roomy thigh ( particulary in the upper thigh ) but with a little taper ( I have big thigh but small calf ). Can anyone tell more about those cuts ?
And what means " middle straight " ?

                Thank you a lot

                Aymeric

Yes, I saw this ( very useful ) post and this is why the 1955 cut is the IH's cut that I prefer ( roomy tapered ) but it is not the only cut which is straight/regular/roomy tapered. And it is the reason why I want to know if someone here get this jean and can compare with the FC or FH jean I quoted. Or if in your opinion this cut could work for my physique ( I have muscled thighs and skinny calf ).

@ayX I own the Fullcount 1101 and have tried on the Flat Head 3009 too. The IH 1955 model has a very different top block, especially compared to the 3009 - being much higher rise both front and back. The thigh on the 1955 is also wider than both of the other models. Of all the IH cuts, I think the 633 from Self Edge would be the closest to the 1101 and the 3009, though I haven't the time to compare measurements. Nothing wrong with a 1950s cut though…

The 633 looks great but being a French consumer I prefer jeans to be shipped from England to avoid customs fees… The IH 1955 has wider thigh and smaller leg opening than the 1101 ( and high rise for both of them ) so it's more what I'm looking for. I think I will choose between the FH 3009 and IH 1955. Thank you for your advices !

You've probably already made your decision but I own the 1955-UHR and Fullcount 1101.  The denim, of course, is very different with the FC being much lighter and softer and the 1955 being heavy weight and rugged in feel.  The IH is also bluer and not quite as dark in color as either the 1101 or heavier 1101XX.  Both have a nice high rise and are quite roomy in the top block, as you know.  The IH is wider through the hips and since the denim is heavier, there'll be some hip flare until the denim settles in.  If you can afford both, I think you'd like both.  Despite fit similarities, the denim is so different – IH-1955 is a tough, rugged, very casual pair of jeans vs. the Fullcount, which is a little more tailored.  Also, the IH uses poly-cotton stitching, so much longer wearing than the all-cotton FC.

I love my IH-1955-UHR.  Maybe this isn't IH's most popular cut but it's my favorite.  I wish they'd introduce a similar cut with a darker indigo color.  The current color tends almost towards a royal blue.

Another cut you should look at is the Samurai 510 (e.g., 0510XX).  This comes in various denim weights.  I have the 15 oz. Texas cotton -- roughly textured, more so than even the IH-1955-UHR.

Great idea Giles.  I'll give it a go when they're back in stock.

Can't imagine that there are too many of you out there, but if anyone has owned both the 1955-UHR and 1955S, it would be great to hear how they wear and compare.

I have both the 1955S and the 1955UHR. I love them both, and they are two complete different animals. I wear more often the 1955S, more during work.  Then I turn towards the look and feel of the 1955 UHR. The UHR are a bit more stiffer (heavier). I get more compliments on them as well. These two jeans make me feel like I have dual personalities, until I think, if only they made them in 25OZ denim. hhhhhmmmm.. Bottom line is they both wear great, and different but great for those who prefer a higher rise.

Thanks for the input Sam.  Sounds like the S and UHR are different enough to justify owning both – all I need is a small excuse.  I hear you on the 25 oz., though I suspect these may stand up on their own.  I would like to see something around 18 oz. also.

As far as fit, I really like the high rise.  I do notice on my UHR's that there is some hip flare, though this may be a result of the stiffness of the denim -- something that will change and settle in over time.  Do you notice this with your 1955-UHR and, if so, is it any different with the S?

Hi John. This is my opinion, the 1955S, are a softer heavyweight denim, which probably conforms to me a bit more. One pair I wear has been washed a couple of times. I move around quite a bit while at work, and they feel very comfortable. The 1955 UHR, I have soaked once and washed once. they probably have shrunk not as much as I expected, are a stiffer heavier denim, but still feel great  Can't say that I notice a hip flare, but a totally different denim feel. Why I brought up the 25OZ. denim, I also have the 25OZ Beetle Buster, which after washing, maybe even before washing, have a softer feel than the UHR. On this point, I am not complaining, it's the denim, and why I like the 1955S and 1955 UHR. Two totally different jeans, and 2 different feels and fits. Both of which I like.

G mentioned that he is considering a 1955 cut in the 17oz Organic Cotton/Natural Indigo denim seen here:

If you scroll through the pages, you can see how the denim fades with G's personal pair. Based on pictures alone, I think the denim is one of IH's nicest.

One more thought on the 1955-UHR. I am know way an expert on these heavy weight jeans, I just started wearing them in September 2014. But I have collected vintage Levi's, Lee and Wrangler for years, and the 1955-UHR reminds me of some vintage 501's-505's that I have from the late 40's early 50's, and I know it's not the same denim, but appears similar.
