I really like the idea of a "boss" style boot for the skinnier legged denim bearers. Perhaps not having had the pleasure of owing a pair, ever I may be holding onto misconceptions about boss "flare" underneath the jeans and am not a fan, personally, of the blouson style of tucking jeans into boots.

Perhaps it's a case that boot cut is exactly that for boss wearing reasons? Maybe a 6" pull up would be more like it.

Apologies, thinking out loud. Incredible looking boots D97…

Those 30s are gorgeous.  And @Fergz i find that all cuts of IH that I own (634, BB, 666, and even 555) fit over the shafts of my engineer boots with "standard' builds.  As far as I've personally seen in the wild, only motorcycle cops tuck their pants in their boots.  But I also know you can ask to have Wesco Boss boots built with thinner shafts, and some folks on this forum have had qualified cobblers successfully narrow the shafts on their engineer boots.

                      Thanks for the feedback @Bluegrass

I guess Wesco can build anything once the specs are solid. Good to know that the boss boots work on your 666 and 555 fits. Both particular favourites of mine.

@Fergz Bluegrass's advice about boot shafts and jeans is dependent on the size of your jeans. I need a leg opening of about 7.5 in. to comfortably fit around my Bosses, so there's no way I could wear them with 555 because I wear a small size. Just FYI.

Thanks Superfuzz. I wear 30 in 666s and guess that the Bosses would work with that but definitely not with my sized down 555s. It might be so tight that a vacuum would be created resulting in my balls dropping by about a metre…!

Hahaha yeah. I think generally a straighter fit looks better with engineers anyway. Also FYI a lower height isn't going to help make the shaft any narrower. The shaft has to be wide enough to get your foot into the boot.

Good point, I'm a 38 and size 12.5, and while the 555s do fall over the shaft it is pretty close.  If you were thinner with a big shoe size I can see you'd never be able to do that.

                                Dear Giles,

the sheer beauty of these boots is captivating! I have never thought of buying Wescos before, having forever associated the legendary brand with the fearsome die-hard 17" beasts with lug soles, which are definitely not my cup of tea. But this beauty is another thing altogether! Any idea about how it fits? I have narrow feet and a low instep, which can be a problem with engineer boots. In comparison, I wear US9/UK8/EUR42 Frye 12r engineers (a tight fit) and Viberg 83 engineers, and US9,5/UK8,5/EUR42,5 Red Wing 2990 engineers (with a thin insole) and Chippewa 97863s. Any suggestions from other forum members?

I would think that these would work for you.  They tend to come up a little narrow.  I have wide feet and a high instep and I can't even look at them…..

Yes I do, I took a 9.5D in the Wild Ones and a 10D in these. The WO's were quite tight at first but have formed perfectly, these a little looser as you'd expect being a 10. I usually wear a 9.5D in Redwings, not sure if that helps much, I hate giving sizing advice.

                                        Dear Giles, dear Nick,

thank you both for the feedback, much appreciated, even more so as sizing advice can be so boring for those kind enough to provide it! As far as I can see (from the small icon with the nice collection exhibited on the grass), Nick's RWs are lace-ups, my usual size in these (Beckmann/GTs & Iron Rangers) is US 8,5 or US 9, the 522 last of the 2990s seems to be smaller, thus a 9,5D for me. So I guess Wescos in US 9D or 9,5D would fit me … As for the WOs, it must be either US9D or US9,5D.  I see that some people here complain about the tight fit of the WOs, no idea if that's about the actual sizing or the low toe profile (or both) ...
