    Beautiful denim on the 1955-UHR.  Ordered 34 and 36 and realize I'm probably a 35 😉

34 is perfect in the hips and thighs but snug in the waist.  36 is comfortable in the waist but BIG everywhere else.  Will probably go with 34 and hope for some stretch.  Will try to post pics later.

If you like heavy denim, a long rise, and room in the thighs, you'll love the 1995-UHR.  Very different fit from my two other pairs of IH jeans:  634s (34) and 633s (36).

Here are some pictures of the 34 and 36.  Let me know what you think.

        Yoyogi…..

That's the one. Been stuck in my head for around 3 years now. Would have added a ton of !!!!'s but was not on approved character list.

@JohnM , wow, tough position to be in. If they're unwashed and the 34 is still snug, I don't think you're going to get much relief after the initial wash. (it'll shrink 1+ inch in the waist).

The 36 might shrink to fit. Not enough before>after photos posted on the shrink. I think it's got to be the 36 due to the waist.

I would disagree… I don't have experience with this denim but in everything I've tried the waist always goes back to raw. Always. If it's good in the waist now and pretty loose otherwise I think the 34 might be perfect

Depends how 'snug in the waist' snug is. Agree the over all fit of the 34 is better. If it's tight @ raw is a concern. On the flashship 21, tight on day 0 = perfect. On this denim tho ?

Would like to say to take a hot bath wearing the 34, don’t put ’em in the dryer, and all should be good, but can speak with no actual authority on this matter. :-\

I can say that my pioneer denim shrunk like a bastard (3" in length which is more than this) and the waist was snug when I got it and perfect now after stretching. I think the 34 will be good but def ask g.

Yes, let's get @Giles to talk about the stretch in this denims.

According to the description it's "Will shrink to tagsize in the waist and approx 2 inch in the inseam, but after a month or two of wear will stretch back to approx pre-soak size"

Hence if they're tight presoak, they may never get any better…

I think the 34 will work if treated gently…...

Thanks for the input everyone.  As you've all said, it comes down to whether the waist on the 34 is downright tight or just a little snug – and I think it's the latter.  I'll sleep on it and try 'em on again, rather than diving into a stack of pancakes or large omelette!  At age 59, I doubt I'll ever get back to that 33" waist from the '70s, but 34 or 35 can't be that tough, right?

The 1955-UHR denim is fantastic, as is the workmanship and attention to detail.  Just be prepared for some room in the thighs and a longer rise.  Maybe I should keep both -- one for before dinner, and the other for after 😉

                        Thanks again.
                        John

I think you'll be able to stretch the 34. Keep it!

The size 34 1955-UHR's came out perfect after a 2.5 hour cold soak – thanks very much for all of your input.  It's nice to have some heavyweight Iron Hearts with a high rise.  As long as they don't shrink too much more with future washing, these will be perfect.  Again, thanks to Giles and others for weighing in.

I'd post fit pics, but you've seen enough of me 😉

Not a great photo, but here's my pair. The picture was shot in an angled mirror, so there's a distorted perspective.

They lost quite a lot of volume in the thigh when I gave them the initial soak / wash. I think that they've stretched out to the raw waist size again already.

The fit is quite snug, like a pair of Beatle Busters on someone without such heroically built legs.

Glad to hear I was wrong! Would love to see the 'after' result when you do get a moment, I'm still trying to work out the shrinkage on these visually.

@Graeme totally distorted perspective, it looks like there's a dress behind you!?

@Snowy the shot was taken in a Margaret Howell shop. They have a few dresses there. 🙂

I tend to go in to look at the vintage Ercol furniture and leatherware. In that case it was to see a little exhibition on architecture!

My pair slimmed down quite a bit on the thigh. They're stretching out again now though. No before pics, sorry.

                                      Snowy,

I've only cold soaked (2.5 hours) and line dried.  So there probably is a bit more shrinkage to come (e.g., after machine washing).  They didn't come in somewhat after the cold soak – some inseam effect but very little in the waist and elsewhere.  I also stretched the waist a bit when they were damp (buttoned the waist around a small trash pale and stuffed a few things in to tighten).  I was pretty concerned about the waist being too small given they were snug to begin with, but I'm feeling good about the 34's at this point.  There will be a bit of future shrinkage, no doubt, but there may also be more stretch.

I will post some fit pics but would like to wait until after the first machine wash.  Let me know if you can't wait a week or two 😉

I really like the 1955-UHR, but I like higher rise jeans (12-13" in the front).  Most jeans ride too low for me either in front, back, or both.  One thing I like about IH's in general is that even if the front rises are too low for me, the back rises are reasonable.  So I can wear a 634 without them feeling like they're coming off.

                                      John

I'm wearing the 34 now – good in the waist and roomy elsewhere.  36 would have been too big, so thanks for the input everyone.  I like this cut because of the rise especially.  If you want trim, look elsewhere.  But if you like a higher rise and some room in the hip and thigh, these are fantastic.  Stiff and strong denim -- "we don't do light." 😉
