Yep. I especially love these with Smartwool hiking socks. Next level comfort, like walking on pillows. Totally different vibe than the smokejumper clodhopping stompers, each awesome in their own ways.

^and that's where I got a pair. Totally unplanned, but needed for my hiking holiday this year (of course ;)). Fanbtastic built boot, pretty comfy out of the box. Just the laces are a bit too stretchy for my liking - it's not easy to fasten the boot real tight. I'll try to wear them as much as possible, two months to go until I really need them.

How did you guys solve it? I actually thought about new ones, also in red. Leather felt tighter, but I haven't worn those yet outside. How many wear does it take for the boot to soften up (more)?

I seem to remember mine softening up pretty quickly, but I thought they were really comfortable straight out of the box; so it's tough to say exactly. The leather laces do provide more of a "locked in" fit, but I haven't had any issues with the red.

Great choice with these, MP, and excellent pics, as always. I wear mine all the time and they just keep getting better.

Thank you! And just what I wanted to hear. I also think they're great out of the box, but want to make sure they're broken in a bit before I climb around in the alps.

I just tighten the shit out of mine. I haven't taken them to the trail and will need more tension in the lacing then.

Exactly my feeling. But this should be easy to deal with, I might try Red Wing laces or just look for red laces by Manufacturers like Meindl or Hanwag. These should do the trick.

As nobody posted pictures with the leather laces yet:

I never owned leather laces before - can I expect them to last? I wouldn't want them to rip in the mountains, and that's where these boots will be going.

For what it's worth, which isn't much, I use leather laces everywhere I can and rarely see problems. They will stretch over their lifetime, and eventually will break. However I have a pair that have been in use for a decade, that I treat like any other leather. To me, they don't seem to bite your foot like nylon or cotton. I wouldn't suggest pulling on them with great force, but to get around and hike in, I would still prefer the leather.

Thanks for the reply. As the red ones were a bit stretchy, I think I'll try leather. They shouldn't crack too soon and I have tons of different leather conditioner. But on these boots, I need to pull with great force, so I just ordered the Meindl Superperfekt red laces on top. This should be enough for decades.

When I say great force, I mean GREAT force. I keep mine tight, and they handle flex well without over stretching. Maybe try them around town before your trip, if they survive the daily, then I wouldn't hesitate to take them hunting, hiking, or anything else one might do in that boot.
