Hey guys - sorry in advance for being the lame new guy who asks a question that's probably been asked 100s of times already on the forum! Also apologies for being long winded - important part is bolded!

I've been interested in raw denim for a while now and have been lurking on several forums. I like the idea of buying something that is of great quality that will last and last 🙂

I've finally taken the plunge and bought a pair of IH-634S and am looking forward to receiving them soon! My question is - should I pre soak or not? I know that there is no real need to do so as these jeans are sanforized. But I've also heard that it may be a good option to remove some of the excess starch/stiffness that may cause blowouts.

My main concern is durability! The idea of fading my own jeans is awesome too but is not my number 1 concern.

I should also say that I purchased W29. I think that my true size is 29.5-30 (I recently bought a pair of levis 504 and 508 - not raw - both size 29 which fit me fine in the store… they have stretched a bit now and I need to wear a belt)

          Cheers!

I think you're going to end up with a great pair of jeans…and everyone started somewhere. You don't need to presoak, there's hardly any starch in these in my opinion.

For durability....make sure you wash your jeans frequently! Once a month (which isn't even that frequent) will lead to jeans that last a lot longer and that actually fade naturally and won't look predistressed.

IH-634S have been pre-soaked.  There is zero need to do it a second time.

You're in for a treat with these 634S's. They are soft as a baby's butt and amazing from Day1. They are as durable as it gets. I've had my pair for coming up on 3 years now and they're still in a fantastic shape. I don't wash mine too often as I don't want them to fade all that fast - mind you, the 634S is a tough beast to fade anyhow 🙂

                                  Hey folks!

I just measured my IH-634S out of curiosity. I bought a W29 and I measured as Madame Butterfly taught me, 41cm (*2=82cm which is a 32 somehow).

That means, my pair has stretched for nearly 4 inch.
😢 The jean fits me nearly perfect, even shirt tucked in, love it no matter what.

Are 4 inches of stretch for real?
                                  Next time I size up!

                                  Have a good one!

Received in good order. Hemmed (on the insistence of my girlfriend). And now wearing.

They are absolutely awesome. Could not be happier 🙂

Welcome, wingjammer. There are lots of us (myself included) that wear the 21oz all year long. It's a phenomenally-versatile denim that breathes very well, despite it's weight.

Also, just so you know, this thread is for the unsanforized 21/23oz raw. It's not the same denim as the 21oz, which is sanforized. You can find the traditional 634s here:

                                          Great choice, BTW.

It is heavy, but there are other factors that affect how comfortable a pair of jeans will be.  The 21oz denim is a loose weave, which makes it more breathable than many lighter weight denims.  That makes the 634S more comfortable to wear in warm weather.  I live in Houston, and I wear my pair year round, even in our miserably hot and humid summers.

For what it's worth, the hottest wearing pair of jeans I've owned since living here was a pair made of 12.5oz denim.

(Oh, and I moved your post to the appropriate thread. 🙂 )
