I'm in the same boat. I have a couple hundred 7AM blades I got for less than $30 and each of them lasts me about a month….

    Think it, be it.

Nice set up!  Just wondering about your shave cream, are you using D R Harris cream decanted into what looks like a previously emptied Castle Forbes bowl?

How did you rate the Castle Forbes cream?  I really like it, the bowl is nice and easy to use as it is wide and gives loads of room to work your brush.  The lavendar scent Castle Forbes cream is on my shopping list at the moment.

sometimes I'm a little jealous that I don't get to do the whole shaving thing. My face looks goofy as hell clean shaven, so I've had a beard for 6 years (I'm 27 now).

On the flip side….bearding comes with its own set of fun things. Plus its really easy to do.

            awesome!

I'm 4 months into mine going untrimmed (had a short beard for the previous 6 years)

I just switched from beard oil to honest amish beard balm…and I'm loving the difference. The goal is to get at least a yeard

jeff i miss the shit out of your beard
              it was amazing
              bring it back!!!

irishexpat, i get the best of both worlds
the way my face is it looks odd to grow my throat part of the beard, so i shave my throat and a few odd ones on my cheeks 🙂
i have some honest amish beard balm. i found it didnt really control my fly aways as much as i wanted it to when i had it long enough to worry about
but work, fly aways and that awful inbetween awesome and short length have kept me keeping mine fairly short these days

don't you know there ain't no devil? only god when he's drunk!

Hey mate , yes that is my old emptied , C & F cedarwood / sandalwood container . Great stuff , a little
dab on a wet brush or in the bowl explodes into lather.

I always thought that using a straight razor looked manly , then here we are with Gillette
nine blades or the plastic disposables . Straights require far more patience and a commitment
to a learning curve. When you get the hang of it - feels great .

After almost five years on the DE razors / straights …..there is no going back . Will post
pics of my razors , once back in Vancouver later .

Any recommendations on replacement handles for a Gillette? I want something a bit longer, maybe dress it up a bit.

Anyone using a kamisori? I've been contemplating going this route eventually, either traditional, or ground and re-honed to be used double edge as seen on this iwasaki razor.

I've been using double edge blades  in a safety razor for years (better shave and save coin )
Last two years went to a straight razor .

I've been using de and a shavette (didnt want to invest in honing stones and a strop till I knew it was for me) for awhile. The traditional kamisori is only one sided though, and requires a special technique to shave yourself with…..I may just look into the ground iwasaki, but was just interested in opinions on the traditional method, if anyone was going that route.

I have a kamisori and it's tricky to use . Here is my set up here in Japan.

Thanks jock, tricky is definitely one of the words I hear associated with it commonly.  Will probably wait until I'm out in vancouver again and try to do some more research there, my searches on the Internet tend to find little info / arguements.

The straight razor route is a steep learning curve . I stuck with it and finally after some time,
got it right . I hear you on not wanting to go baboonbonkers on hones / strops . I was interested in that way
since years ago it was the only way to shave . It doesn't get more "manly" than dragging a super sharp
blade across your face , hard to go back to the plastic two bladed contracptions .

Thanks again man, the shavette does a fairly good job at replicating the straight razor feel from what I can gather, but I'd imagine the weight difference could switch up the feel a bit.

Will have to look around that whipped dog site more. It looks like there could be some good value finds on there.
