I've always thought that leather looked interesting. Really curious to see how this turns out, urb.

What's the black otter leather?  I'm assuming that it's not actually otter, but I know what happens when you assume.

I have no idea whether it's real otter or not. I just like it because it's a little more matte and pliable than the standard Black Dress but still leagues ahead of the CXL.

I once talked to a bootmaker who told me, "if you can kill it, you can make boots out of it."  I've seen boots made from fish skins, frog skins, and cow stomachs.  Nothing would surprise me, but I agree, real otter seems unlikely.

There wasn't a price mark up for the leather so I'm assuming it's just a gimmicky name.

Yeah, I was going to guess that it's treated with silicone or something to make it more water resistant, you know, since otters are water animals.  Guess we'll find out when you get them in a month or two.

Otter leather is oil treated calf I believe, I asked Kyle about it a while ago as it confused me too.

There's an interesting SD build on White's ebay auctions:

The description only says "burgundy leather", but doesn't mention what type of leather it is. Calf? Water Buffalo? Seems to be very glossy and the colour has a beautiful depth. Also, the toe cap is interesting. It has that dark burnished look that is quite popular on "fashion" boots and which I normally don't like. I think it's pretty cool here. Could that be a new option - burnished dress toe cap?

What do you think? btw that pair is way too small for me. But I am thinking about a pair of SDs in the near future;-)

Sold. So… did anybody here get them?
I asked Whitesriver for details on the build. They replied that this build is only available through Bakers but didn't give further infos..go figure...

I'm afraid you were right. Just got an email from Kyle. It's their limited edition #8 shell SD. So we're looking at roughly 1000$ here
