I've been talking to who is (by reputation) the best shoe rebuilder in England, and I am still not confident that they could do it to a standard I'd like. The American work boot/ shoe is totally alien to english cobblers unfortunately.

If these get done then it has to be done by Whites only.

Who have you been talking to Gav, I've been looking for a decent cobbler in England?

I ship a shit load, I therefore get ridiculous discounts off list, so the cost of shipping for me is effectively a rounding error.  Mine go back to original maker…..Sorry

Oh and to make it worse, anything I do with clothing is a tax deductible expense....Double sorry....

You'll be the most happy that way for sure. It sucks that it costs so much. Would it be any cheaper to use a proxy? I'd be happy to help if it'll reduce the cost in any way.

The problems begin when you ask about the availability of Vibram wedge soles and the cobbler looks at you like you have just asked them for a strand of ET's pubic hair.

Thank you for the offer dude, but I think the cost runs the same however I cut it.

Ok, one last thing and I'll leave it alone. Can you source your own sole and provide it to your local cobbler?

Sourcing the sole is only the beginning of the issues…. trust me, after last time it is better to return to source.

This may sound like a silly question to some but here it goes…

I've got a new pair of jeans (shrink to fit) and I've kinda messed up... Usually I get them 2 inches bigger than my actual waist and after a hot soak everything has gone well in the past.

The problem I have with these jeans is that they fit (in the waist) as I would have hoped them to fit AFTER the soak already. My question is, if I hot soak these by sitting in the bath with them on to get them to shrink everywhere else other than the waist, if in future I decided to wash them would the waist then shrink as it would have had I not been wearing them during the initial soak?

Hope that makes sense for you all 🙂

                                        Cheers

                                          Depends what make and denim.

Some RJB jeans shrink 3" in waist.  Most TFH and IH raw, only shrink an inch.  My rule of thumb with TFH and IH is that if they fit reasonably well pre-soak then after a shrink and a stretch, they'll be fine.

imo the waist is going to shrink after said wash…by wearing them when soaking, the waist/denim has to way to go so no shrinkage is happening. when washed on its own, the denim in the waist is going to shrink since nothing is there to keep it from doing that!
i'd say hot soak and wear them while doing so and after that, i'd just soak'em cold or wash'em cold. also wear them while they're still damp, that way you can stretch them back to your desired fit way easier as when they're dry!
