Enjoying the new Burial EP - Rival Dealer - that appeared without fanfare just before 2014 hit.

Not sure any of the tunes hit the heights of Truant though…

            ??

If that's an accusation of cynicism on my part, a quick google on your part might reveal that the artist in question doesn't tend to operate like that…

Maybe I should have posted a link to some ropey metal instead, just to fit in better.

I'm fucking serious, the only album I have heard is self titled. I was curious if he changed it up a bit or is still dub stuff.

btw I am a music fanatic. So I was not breaking your balls. I like everything from Phish to Converge from Cash to The Knife and everything in between with in reason

My bad - too much IPA…

Much changed from the early stuff off his self-titled album.  More of a soundscape/dystopian thing going on these days.

'Untrue' was the album that started the process imo, even though it still had a lot of the upfront dub-step influences and the shorter tracks of 'Burial' - and was probably his most accessible album.  Since then, the EPs have featured longer tracks that seem more fragmented on first listen, but get more coherent the more time you give them.

Loads more ideas going on though - I seem to remember Pitchfork (or a similar site) describing it as 'post-Skynet' which I quite liked, even though I generally hate that sort of bullshit labelling.

For the record, I also like metal - I just struggle with some of the relentlessly dark shit that gets posted on here a fair bit (whether via lists or links)  😉

Not really that familiar with either of those, but beats are still to the fore with the most recent Burial stuff - so if the ambient/drone/Eno-esque thing is what you're after you may be disappointed.

The beats have got a lot more complex (and interesting) though, as have the samples and sounds he's using.  Loads more depth than the early stuff.
