It seems the water is going through the grinds quite quickly for me still. After stirring for 10 to 15 seconds half the water had already fallen and when I insert plunger and press down the cylinder is mostly air.

I had a slightly more coarse grind yesterday so I went finer today. It's taking me several minutes to grind 24g of beans with hario mini mill. Help! 😉

I've picked up 5 bags of beans with various roast age to hold me over this christmas break. Consider this your general reminders to pick up beans from now until NY, most roasteries are closed from tomorrow.

A fine-ish grind is what you're after for the Aero. It takes me about 2 minutes to grind 32-34gms on the Hario Skerton. Different beans take different lengths of time, based on the size and strength of the bean itself.

Got given an aeropress over Christmas…. Any pointers before I start? I noticed a couple of guides suggest to actually invert the press...

Don't bother with inversion to begin with, it's overly fancy and doesn't make a huge difference. Make it as it says on the box and you can't go wrong. Add some good/fresh single origin beans roasted for filter, ground for aeropress (larger than espresso), and you're on your way. Great christmas present - lucky you!

My first go produced a v. good brew although I think I pressed down too quickly and hard? Is it really meant to take 20-30 secs? Will try again tomorrow morning..:

Takes me about 15-20 second, yeah. It depends on the particle size. Larger particles mean you can press faster. If it's under 10 seconds and you don't have biceps like Arnie, I'd say the grind is too large.

Great to hear you've had a good first brew right off the bat, a terrific start!

This could shape up to an 8 coffee day. Those are rare, but good days. 6 would still be lovely. Mmmmmmmmm

Coffee is turning out too weak… not sure if I need more coffee to water ratio? Or up coffee and up water slightly less - thus diluting it less post-press?

Have you grinded finer? If you fix that up it should take ~15-20 seconds and should be good. I AeroPress as per the box. So stir, let settle, then press (http://aerobie.com/images/AeroPress Instructions for Web L.pdf)

Interesting, I much prefer inversion actually and don't find it to be difficult.  I also don't do my ratios as done on the box.
