Nikwax is used to be washed in. To protect the wonderful lining, I wold even spray it on.
I use an old window cleaner container and mix Nikwax and water 1:1.
Experience has shown, that the jacket has to be near drip wet before.
I am genuinely curious to see your first water repellant report.

Worn the jacket a fair bit now, absolutely love it - only gripe for me is the collar is a bit rough on my neck, hoping it will soften with more wear.

rough?! are we talking material wise or more like.. tightness? i find the collar to be very cozy, but unfortunately theres no way i can wear it with the throat latch buttoned.

Material wise, but maybe rough is the wrong word - it's just a tad prickly for me, but I have a wet-shaved head so maybe that isn't helping as my bonce is completely exposed.

Hey I'm new here and never owned anything from Iron Heart.  I love this jacket after I tried the N1 from Orvis but it was baggy as hell.  I checked out the sizing but unsure if I should go with a S or M.  I am 5 '7"  155 lbs with an athletic build.  After reading this whole thread it sounds like a great fit.  Does it run on the slimmer side?  Thanks for any feedback before I order.
