But you see, there is an essential difference between "need" and "want".  In my case "want" always wins….

I see the difference G, but I want my gear to serve its purpose.

I'm not saying that I'm right by the way, just saying that mass accumulation strikes me as a touch vacuous and makes me mentally sigh a little. Surely you (not you personally) could get out there and see the world, rather than marvelling at you collection of "things". I would rather spend time talking to someone with interesting stories of experiences than stories about their stuff.

Also, just to add, I'm clearly not anti-stuff, I love pretty things as much as anyone, but stockpiling something that is made to be used, worn, aged and enjoyed just doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, irrelevant argument for you as you always wear your gear in well.

BTW, this was sparked in my head by reading the "how many pairs of jeans do you own" thread on SuFu before anyone starts taking it personally.

Different strokes for different folks mate. Maybe the people buying the much denim either earn a shit-ton more, or maybe they've seen the world, or maybe they've realized everything is the same?

Why buy a Lexus/BMW or even something more flashy when a Toyota will do the job? Same deal. Different strokes different folks.

Buying a luxury car over a standard car is totally different. Buy 10 luxury cars and keeping them in a garage would be more accurate.

The whole "seen my" culture is lost on me I'm afraid, especially in a scene where everything is so well made and such emphasis is put on organic evolution, not to mention just being socially responsible.

I am happy to say that my Roll Call list has been getting shorter and shorter. One jeans, two ducks, handful of shirts. I too don't understand the need for having stuff you won't/ don't wear…

this is what i'm going to do…starting now!
now that i have a monthly income, i rather spend my earned money on flying to a place i've never seen before than spending a shitload on gear that "just hangs there" (took me a bit to find myself i have to admit!)...

and about the Roll Call thingy...for me it's not showing off what one has "in stock" it's more like "what size shirt does a person with the same built wears" and etc. ...so including sizes to the shit you own is just helpful for others. at least that's the way i'm looking at somebody's RC...
ok, maybe sometimes i'm also impressed, but still...sizes are more important to me though!

You have a gift for looking fucking awesome in just about everything you wear, and all that would make it better is to see you and your awesome gear in some far out places doing some cool things. Get out there man, if I were your age, with no kids and your income I'd riding a tiger through Borneo about now.

                            I'm with Megatron on this.

I've spent quite a lot on clothes this year, but that's largely because my new T-shirts were all three or four years old. But I currently own three pairs of jeans, a similar number of other trousers, and apart from wanting a pair in black denim (probably the OD 634-B), I don't really feel the need for more.

                            OK, there's the upcoming 21/23 oz re-run…

Right, I'm off to find where I can hire a tiger in Borneo. 😃

It goes back to what I said yesterday in the Random Announcements thread, I thought long and hard about the minimalist wardrobe but decided it was a bullshit concept. Instead I'm going for a functional wardrobe, no overlap, no repetition, everything in there justifies its place by having a regular or specialist use (not because it's blue and I don't have a blue thing).

I view my wardrobe in the same way a mechanic views his tool kit, I appreciate the quality and it should be clean and well presented, but I don't need 7 1 1/16th wrenches.

i dont think a mechanic was a good comparison of that gav, most mechanics will have at least 2-3 sets of booth metric and standard wrenches 😉 and thats not including the stubbies, and other different types
                                  just saying 😉

Everything now gets the wear it should. If your into vintage clothes and their fades, then you should know that most of those people were poor and they have sick fades because that was their only outfit for several years. I'm a wearer, not a collector.
