All Things Mac/ Apple

Mclain nails it in 1 I think. If you're sure you don't want a laptop, the iMac is a great place to be with the fusion drive.
Depending on budget and existing monitor etc I may still go with a MBP. If you've not got a great monitor, iMac sounds perfect. A very nice setup should be under $2k.
The ability to potentially move your device around from time to time, and if you do have a decent monitor would get me thinking about the MacBook Pro's. For almost the same cost you'd end up with something like below, which is the 13" 2.9Ghz on the website. Added if you're really serious, about squeezing $ for power/performance, I suggest looking @ the Refurbs, you get the same warranty as new at around 20% off

A nice page I have come across yesterday, helps you install the standard-set of tools when doing a re-install: http://getmacapps.com/

well i am back in Oz, and sorry to the people i said i would try and see but this is the first time i have had in a about 3 weeks to sit down.
this aint just an apple question but i am sure you can all help me. my parents house in a single story but long, and the modem/router (billion BiPAC 7401VGP R3) is at one end and cant really be moved. About 2 years ago i gave them a netgear wifi extender WN2000RPT and it doesnt really work, well not with my mac and drops in and out and needs resetting.
1.there is a cat 6 lead running from the billion to about 2/3rds down the house can i put another router/ something here. as my thinking is wired would be better than a wifi extender boosting signal.
2.do new modems/router have better stroner wifi that will fix the problem
3. other ideas?!
thanks!

@todd:
What I would do: just use a WLAN access point on the other end of the cat6 line, but you have to terminate it via a network socket.

You could also try using a dLAN plug with internal Wifi, but thats a bit redundant since you have a cat6 line.
Snowy might have better/other ideas.
Other topic: are there any hints when the new Haswell-based iMacs will be released? Will there be an update coming out this year most likely?
-
cat 6 is already wall mounted like a power socket? i have a mate that is an electrician and he just handed me a box of cat 6 and said you run the cable and I will do all the wall mounting.

Been writing powershell all night for work, and the bloody telco yesterday that took my line out still has it out :|.
As shoque has said/you assumed, you'll get better performance if you run another access 2/3rds down the house. New Airport Expresses might fit the bill, small/dual band etc. Little bit of Apple Tax, but they're a pretty simple/solid device.
To answer the new device/range question. Newer devices are generally covering lesser areas at higher throughput. 5Ghz stuff has short range, 2.4Ghz has heaps of interference, but better range.

Maybe I'm just being stupid but I wasn't happy when I saw all the colors….I feel like it makes the iPhone seem cheap and like a kids toy. Black and white are way classier.
The whole "this wouldn't have happened if Steve was here" point is indeed silly but I really don't think this would have..... And also with ios7. I'm all for improvement but when apple starts blurring the line between what makes the iPhone the iPhone instead of any other random android it's not good Imo

Apple has had brightly colored devices for years. This was probably on the roadmap when Jobs was at the helm. Maybe not the champagne 5S… And possibly not the goddamn 5C cheese grater cases...
Them looking more toy like is just typical Apple product line segmentation brilliance. 5S is meant to be the Rolls-Royce.
I just had my 5 battery replaced but battery life is still garbage. Maybe I'll get a 5S

Mrs Snowy went from not wanting a phone to wanting the Yellow 1 just like that. She's the target audience.
Me I'm going Black 5S, and now there's 2 markets of phones :). http://daringfireball.net/2013/09/iphone_5c_5c_event is a good article on the creation of a 2nd market.

It definitely looks cool and I'm sure it's optional to use it…. But as with all the "s" upgrades this one doesn't tempt me too much. I got a 5, and will probably be waiting for 6
McLain, my battery is crap too. IMO te battery on every 5 is

Hoping the fingerprint sensor has an API that enables it to be used as a controller. That's a hope I've had ever since I had a blackberry bold long ago, it had an infrared sensor in replacement of the physical ball. It would be nice to have this added option for scrolling an other controls.
-
Does fingerprint information remain local to the phone or is it collected like all other data?
-
My guess is that it's local. A breach of a central resource would be devastating to the company in so many ways, there's no reason to take on such a risk.

Anyone is already using ios7? I tried to instal the ios7 beta gm version I was unable to do it. And the error MSG was due to fireware. Anyone has any idea why?
I would just wait. Apparently, the new GM beta needs iTunes 11.1 to sync after you install. Also, WiFi syncing does not work in the iOS7 betas(not a bug, Apple just disabled it I believe). I've had iOS7 since the first beta and had OTA updates for each new beta but not this one. I'm just gonna wait a week until there's an iTunes update and official release of iOS7.
