I like that RL but it's too damn big. To my eye the dial is so expansive that it totally dwarfs the hand set similar to what Rolex has done to the 39mm Explorer I. Also at the price point I would much rather see it on a beefy hand-sewn strap than that fabric. It seems to cheapen the overall look of the watch IMO.

I agree, anesthetist; hodinkee may think it's great, but it looks like something you'd see on a $50 Timex, not a $3500, COSC certified, "premium" watch.

d666's seiko is nice in real life, the image doesn't do it justice.

i wanted a high end watch a few months ago & am glad that fire burned out, that would have ben an expensive habit to maintain

Great watch Jeff! I have the 007J and I love it.

Grabbed one of my Grandfather's old watches while I was home this weekend

Been thinking about grabbing one of these for a while, and BAM it was there in the midst of his other watches.  Really liking it…

That's just one of the SKX models, right?  You should have no problems finding one, Finn.  Check eBay for new ones, WatchRecon for used and modified ones.  I think you can find one around $150-175 pretty easily.

Go for the 007J Rafa. It's a little more expensive, but the movement is made in Japan. Check out the EDC thread for a pic of mine.

Zenith El Primero Lightweight. Limited to just 100 pieces worldwide, and in the UK it's on sale for £13,700 (about $22,000) from the emporium of good taste that is Harrods.

I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand it's a bit of a techno-bling overload, though I do have a soft spot for Urwerk's creations and the Jaeger LeCoultre Extreme Lab. On the other, I really dig the engineering that's gone into it. Much of the movement is made from titanium.

In any case, Zenith are doing some really interesting things right now. The original Pilot Type 20 appeals, but that's largely because it's a stupidly oversized wristwatch with an observatory chronometer movement. And the El Primero lightweight is significantly cheaper than (say) the IWC Ingenieur Carbon.
