I thought it might be fun to share some memorable concerts.

My first: Van Halen, 1984 tour.  I was just a kid.  We went with a classmate's parents.  Way too young to be at that show.  It was awesome.  Still remember it pretty well.  I can't remember most of college.  Or what happened this morning.

A great pair: I idolized Fugazi throughout junior high and high school.  We caught a couple of shows, one in Jackson, where a good friend interviewed the band for a little zine we were running, and one in Oxford.  Amazing shows.

StoneRock:  A couple of Kyuss shows at the Midnight Sun in Jackson were formative experiences.  As a fan of heavy dark music like Sabbath and early Melvins this kind of music was right up my alley.

Beasties: New Orleans, just rocked it.

Original Meters: One of my favorite bands of all times played their first club show in 30 years in New Orleans…  Heroes to me, loved it.

A Jazz Thang: In DC I had the honor of seeing Pat Martino shred shit at Blues Alley.

Prince: Saw prince rock a 270-person jazz club in Minneapolis.  It was all funky stuff, like taking Curtis Mayfield, Parliament, and the New Power Generation and putting them in a blender.

I'll add more as I have time and go through my piles of stubs, I hope to hear from others…

      Think it, be it.

Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion tour - Manchester Maine Road Stadium - got called an asshole in front of 20'000 people for putting an umbrella up on a sunny day by Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. Wanker.

Happy Mondays/ Black Grape - Nottingham Rock City - Great gig and ended up drinking Hooch with Shawn Ryders dad afterwards.

Arcade Fire - Manchester MEN Arena - Just a real solid gig, first time seeing AF and they are amazing. Noah And The Whale support was awesome too.

Kiss - Sheffield Arena - Tommys first gig, and what a great one to start with. Kiss are the best live act on the planet bar none.

Stone Roses - Derby Assembly Rooms - 1990 - My first ever concert, Ian Brown cannot sing live and I still remember how heavy the air was with weed smoke.

Neds Atomic Dustbin/ PWEI/ The Wonderstuff - Birmingham - The "Stourbridge" scene tour.  Three great ands in one night.

Faith No More - Many, many times - Great live band, Mike Patton is my favourite vocalist.

        There are many, many more…....

Ahh man I should have included the Arcade Fire + LCD Soundsystem tour.  Epic pairing, and an odd pairing.  Loved every minute of that.

I never did see Faith No More, which is a huge fail for me, as I've been a fan of everything Mike Patton has done his whole career.

Human Rights Now! Amnesty international benefit concert my cousin picked me up from middle school and drove to Philadelphia. Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Joan Baez. Amazing show he then took me backstage and I had a beer with Bruce & Clarence Clemons. I was 13 years old. I have since seen Springsteen over 50 times and am a rabid fan.

            September 1996 Irving Plaza, NY
Secret NIN (Trent Reznor) show with Pop will eat itself, Richard Patrick of Filter, Prick & Marilyn Manson (not a fan) insane show only about 250 people there.

            This is MikeC favorite!
October 1994 Glens Falls Civic Center, NY
I went to school in VT. Halloween night my friends dragged me to see Phish. I was so fucked up I don't really remember the show other than the lights. This is one of the most iconic Phish shows ever and I was there. Unfortunately don't really remember much of it. Other than I couldn't understand why they played the entire "White Album" and why the drummer was wearing goggles and a dress. Who would of thought all these years later they would end up being one of my favorite bands.

I lived in and around NYC for many years, and all the bands came through.  I went a ton of concerts.  Too many to remember, really.  The ones that come to mind:

The Who & The Clash (Shea Stadium 1982)
Police & REM (Shea Stadium 1983)
U2 (6 or 7 shows, but the best one was Radio City 1984)
                              Pink Floyd (Giants Stadium 1987)
Sting (Private concert at Beacon Theater 1985)
Simon & Garfunkel (1993 MSG Theater)

35 (give or take) Grateful Dead shows
                              Peter Gabriel–5 shows (all good)
From Good Homes (Jersey band) 10 shows at Irving Plaza NYC

Thanks BH, but Zeppelin was always my favorite band and I never saw them live.  Seeing them in 1975 (at the height of their powers) must have been amazing.  I'm jealous.

                                        was on vocals.

Agreed RP, Led Zep was a landmark gig, I saw Bad Company in 1975 and Robert & Jimmy came out and
did the encore with them. Amazing.

Spasmodics, summer 1992, Warwick Students Union - they were much better than the support act, a little known band called Radiohead. 😃

Killing Joke, 1995 or 1996, The Garage, Glasgow.

Mr Bungle, summer 2000, Astoria, London - specially for Mega. 🙂 They had a warm-up act who was a kid's magician, and he didn't go down to well to the point that some of the crowd were throwing things at him. I got smacked on the head by a full can of beer thrown from somewhere behind me.

There were a couple more in Brighton, Fun Lovin' Criminals and Orbital in 2001 or 2002, but I can't remember the dates.

And I should throw in Yat Kha, The Sage Centre, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 2006. You can't go wrong with a Siberian rock band!
