                Follow-up post, checking the receipt…

                Gueuze De Cam: 3.15 €
                Gueuze Hanssens: 3.25 €
                Gueuze 3 Fonteinen: 2.28 € !!!

Means that the 3 Fonteinen costs just slightly more than the gueuze Boon!.. But the difference in quality is astonishing... The Girardin and Boon are the cheapest (1.81 and 1.80)...

This is gonne be fun... I've had a couple of these before, but I remember when I drank the 3 Fonteinen I immediately thought "This is the best beer I've ever had"...

Some amazing beers made down here in NZ

                  http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/liberty-renalls-towards-muriwai/183469/

This one here is probably extinct.  A touching story if you read it though, the brewer made a beer "with fuckloads of booze and interesting flavors" for his 12th aniversery with his wife.

Same brewery but very much alive, a fantastic example of a new world imperial IPA. Good to get your buzz on by itself or pair with extremely spicy food for a great time.

fantastic NZ take on a Russian imperial stout - I have heard reports of this selling for $80 US a 500 mil bottle in america of course here we get it for about 8 pounds (im converting) a bottle in a bar.

                  finally

Made by some friends of mine not far from where I type this, Bourbon barrel aged porter and tastes every bit its 12.8%

I did have a bottle of the Rennalls towards Muriwai that i was going to cellar but i might have drunk it with a lady friend several months ago. In hindsight I think I would have rather had the bottle; not that it wasn't a good time.

I'm aware of 3 more bottles in captivity. Though murder is probable the only way to get one

One of my favourite beers on the sour end of the spectrum. Probably easier to source your way then it is down here.

I know it'll even be (more) expensive here seeing as how it's imported… Main reason why I don't really get into international beers: why would I pay twice as much as Belgian beer?.. It's not gonna be twice as good... Just isn't gonna happen  😃

I have the same attitude about American beer. The hops that I love so much are grown here. Never have had a foreign beer with the fresh hop bomb wallop I'm looking for.

The Aussies come close, really enjoyed an ale from Little Creatures of Perth.

Well you need to try some NZ IPAs, I would say we are even more hop obsessed then the US. The Citra i posted earlier would be an easy bet though Citra being a US hop (the best showcase of it i have had) you are probably familiar with it.

                                    some to look for

A version of an APA made with nz hops during the great us hop shortage of 2010.

99 on rate beer enough said

Admittedly an Australian hop but our brewers are way ahead in terms a skill (they are catching up over there). Pineapple flavor coming from the hop is uncanny.

Finally another beer from another mate of mine a little bit more sensibly hopped than the last 3.

But will probably be the guy wearing ironheart (or ande whall) having a yarn with the pretty bar tender at the beer bar you visit.

Another fine one, though I find the honey unnecessary and in some vintages cloying. This one has a huge cult following:

This is a hometown beer that, unlike these others, has a strong malt backbone. Combined with the hoppiness, makes it a very big beer:

And, more my style, their seasonal IPA:

The surly looks well worth a try. West coast US beers a fairly easy to come by here at not exorbitant cost. East coast are harder but can still be found. Non coastal beers like hens teeth
