All indications are that Finn is going to be a happy man soon on the RC sizing, though nerkg's description of the sizing sounded perfect "fits like us 9.5 or snug 10"
-
Well I'm a 9.5 in red wings very solidly (electronic measurement at a RW store) so there is hope.
Davito you better believe ill try any measure to keep these babies
Thanks guys such a great community.

Indeed so, but I can at least rest assured there's a loving home awaiting if I can't make it work.
-
Road champs really are freaking sweet. Not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing that I'm too young to be walking around in this footwear…
And another question on my mind: how do you think these babies stack up against Viberg and such?
-
I was wearing Harley engineers in high school, you aren't too young!

Badass! I only wore vans throughout high school and college.

from what i know RC's don't have any age limit my friend

Vans and Chucks were in rotation too, as were combat boots
-
Absolutely no age limit…. Look at cats like James dean back in the day rockin engineers... It's a timeless style of footwear that unfortunately very few companies still manage to make with that beautiful and proper silhouette

I see that so far this question has gone un-addressed. I can't help as I don't own both, but would love to see an/the answer also. My guess is both are the same high quality, but different. Then again, what would I know

I would at that the MFRC are a step above viberg for several reasons:
-
research- Christophe and co put a lot of r&d into making these fit the exact build they wanted. They are a chameleon in color as well as design ranging in hues that nearly reach a dark brown/black and developing a patina to light brown and eventually exposing the natural veg tan leather. With different sole setups they are able to achieve a variety of looks from a 40s build engineer (ala Knapp) to a 50s and even a more "modern" vintage look.
-
materials- the first thing I will point out is MFRC roller buckles. They keep it true to the game, where viberg does not even offer this as an upgrade and personally I despise their "faux" roller buckle. Leathers…. As far as leathers I can compare from viberg I have only the ice mocha cxl and the leather used on the IHVB-03 to compare to the Leather horween developed for the RCs. The leather on the RCs supersedes anything I have owned including viberg's ice mocha cxl which I do adore as well.
-
fit- well this is personal but the MFRC fit me well while I am swimming in my 310 last engineer that was "custom" fit. The width on those engineers as well as room across the instep renders them absolutely useless unless I shove about ten pounds if socks in each show with two insoles and then my toe attempts a jail break through the end of the boot.
All in all it comes to personal preference if what you need, want, and then the overall shape of your foot. I would say both are great boots but IMO the RC comes out a bit ahead. Hope this give a bit of perspective. I will add as I think of more positives and negatives of each

Two years r&d led by a guy with great taste and sensibilities. Thick tanned and painted leather. Great hand carved last, cobbled in USA. Sounds great on paper, I am dying to see if my inbound pair fit!
-
Yeah I dunno, i have a pair as well and did my best to compare to my engineers from viberg to the MFRC I was just exampling leather from my other pair of vibergs as well though I'm sure davito would love to chime in.r
