Oh that's how you created the patina on the Opinel, right?.. I'm def not fucking around with it anymore… Just gonna use it and try and clean the inside with some swabs... All in all every day use and keeping it dry is what is best for this knife me thinks... Thanks though, d666...

If the Spyderco is carbon steel it is very susceptible to rust. Patina is a form of rust. That is why I forced patina on my Opinel. I would rather have a forced patina then brown rust which can happen with neglect. If you force a patina you never have to worry about brown rust again.

Yep - that's why I treated the steel before using it… I think the patina I have developed through planting it into a Granny apple and using cider vinaigre will do for now...

You are correct vinegar patina is nice, more subtle then a hot sauce patina.

What should I do to treat the rust though?.. I cleaned off the vinegar with water but immediately dried it of and placed it in the sun to dry… Very sensitive li'l thing  :-\

Take some metal polish and take the rust off. Even though you've treated the surface, rust can still form under the rust

There's no rust on the blade itself, but inside the knife, on the inside of the lock… Just wondering what I should dip my swabs into to treat it...

You don't treat rust. You remove it

Not sure how you can remove the rust from the locking mechanism without taking the knife apart

Small makes a better EDC IMO YMMV FWIW.

A larger knife is intimidating in office settings, regardless of the size of the carrier.

I am tall but didnt feel like that justifies a larger knife… I actually carried a few different cheaper knives of various sizes over the last year to decide which I size was most comfortable with carrying, using, and felt was most versatile in everyday use... My inclination took me in the direction of the smaller of the two.

Good choice! I've had one in my pocket off and on for about 10 years now and I have no regrets about it (them actually).
