I get on fairly well with my boss, and he is intrigued by the whole denim sub culture, and my involvement in it. I sent him links to all the HWDC threads, and HWBC threads as a kind of explanation of what I do.
Today in a meeting he introduced me to our new sales reps as "a world renowned expert on wearing trousers, and shoes" :o
Shit is getting out of control, I was having a bit of banter with a woman in the office today and she told me to "Just piss off and wear some jeans".
I was wearing jeans at the time :o

while this is sort of funny, Gav's story makes me sad. This is not only unprofesional and stupid, it also shows that she was wrong and knew it. If there is no argument left to discuss, it is often the easiest way to get personal with some kind of b/s, that might be off the norm for narrow minded…

Ah well if the discussion is about the ethical aspect of wearing non-sweatshop made clothes, that's a different animal altogether… Like discussing politics, it's a tricky thing... You're most likely gonna sound like you're on your high horse hence pissing everyone off because their sense of guilt kicks in... This is why I don't discuss being a veggie @ work...

as a vegetarian, zen buddhist, who doesn't drink alcohol, but loves coffee, denim, and leather, I sit on the edge of many very different awkward work-place conversations. It comes down to respecting differences and being tolerant of others. When I have gotten into it, is usually under the banner of 'leave these conversations out of the office'.
Keep doing your thing Gav, simply easier just to agree and move on realizing they can't bait you.

Death toll in OKC from the tornados down from a projected 100 to projected 24, last I read. What great news, I hope there aren't any surprises.
