I love the jeans - love the 634 cut in the 18 oz - love the stealth stitching 😘 - but I wouldn't shed any tears if the pocket patch disappeared.  don't hate it - don't love it.  perhaps if i did "real" work for a living, vs. sit on my ass most of the time i might appreciate it more - if it had real function for me…

I think if these were remade without the leather detail on the pocket they would sell much better… I just tried these on at Selfe Edge and everything about them was fantastic.  I went with the 634s, because I just couldn't get over the leather..... The rest of the details were exquisite, loved the 18 0z denim and the muted pocket detail.

I agree with you. I love my pair of Vulcans, but I do wish the leather triangle wasn't there. It's probably the only thing that stops them being my perfect pair. I know it sounds a bit petty, but these small features can just make the difference. For me it's purely an issue of aesthetics, since I don't use the jeans as "work" jeans.

It would be interesting to have a poll to find the proportion of people for/against it.

I just don't think anyone would "not'' buy these because it didn't have that leather patch.

If it didn't have the leather patch for aesthetic purposes, it would miss the boat with it's underlying ethos: they are jeans for people who do physical work in their jeans and need a place to put their tools

Last week I was on inspection at a cannery. I hung my pocketknife, my flashlight, my stopwatch, and a number of other tools from that corner at different times. That corner would be a mess by now after that week if not for the patch

I was speaking with the IH Japan staff when they asked me "why would we need something like this?" My response was "Jeans are workwear. They fit a need at the time when they were originally designed. 'Work' is different these days and the designs should evolve with them" They seemed to like that answer

I know violence is not the answer, I got it wrong on purpose

Doug, that makes total sense to me.  Last summer, rebuilding one of my two bathrooms, I destroyed four pairs of lesser jeans, and I hang tools from that pocket all the time.  I love that leather patch- to me, it's a sign that these are denim to use, to destroy and rebuild in, and they'll be up to the challenge.  Clothing can be a tool as well, plus it looks damn good.  The Vulcans are the most unique offering Iron Heart has in terms of features- they really are a functional work of art.

6 months. I just hand washed them yesterday. The crotch is about to tear in half, so I'm sending them to Railcar Fine Goods for some work.

They look great Mike. Mine are currently in the back of the closet while I try to tame my contest pair, but honestly I miss them quite a bit. I might give them some love this weekend.

Hopefully, Railcar is quick with the repairs, MikeC.  I have a feeling you will be carrying the torch for these for a bit.  The MBBs stealing some of its thunder.

Now that I have my 25oz fix, this pair is number one on my "Next Pair" list.

Just bought a pair of these- and now the waiting begins.  I bought these as work denim- I've got clean denim for my day job, but these are going to be the ones to get thrashed.

I'm tearing out and rebuilding a bathroom this summer, and the Vulcans will be there every step of the way, so I'll update with pics as time goes on.  For now, all I've got is my iPhone camera, so sorry for the poor picture quality-
The Vulcans are incredible- the 18 oz denim is heavier than I imagined- they almost feel heavier than my 634S- and the denim is stiff enough to be used as structural material before you wear them a little.  I've worn them around for a few days, and they're starting to stretch out a little bit after then initial hot soak.  I am in love with these- the details are incredible- I love the leather triangle- it's really soft, but sturdy, and this denim is just amazing- the perfect pair of work denim.  I can't wait to see how they break in!  If you can't tell- I'm really psyched about these!  If you're on the fence, go for it.  You won't be disappointed!  Here are some pics- I was inspired by some of JCM's pics with his guitar amp, so I shot a few of my amp, guitar, and the Vulcans… just seemed right.

                              Pre-soak fit (sorry it's so dark…)

I'll post a few more in a day or two…

                              I love these jeans!

I get it - I "love" mine too.  Very cool product, all the details make them special as well as the 18 oz denim.

Started wearing January 23rd, 2013 worn just about every day since about 70-90 hours a week. They have visited 5 countries since. 2 hot soaks, about 3 months apart. They were very dirty so I washed them with a half cap woolite and the delicate cycle of my front loader on the warm/cool cycle for 20 minutes. I let them spin for about a minute and removed them early from the spin cycle, about 4 minutes early. Slight indigo color in the waste water from the washer. Hung up to dry over night, they are still a little damp.

The jeans maintained their color in the areas without heavy wear, but picked up some great highlights on the faded areas. They still retained all the creases and whisker folds even through the wash. The leather patch is cracked in all the embossed areas and treated with some light boot oil.

                                  Hope you like the pics:
