    @madmonday:

UK 9 not tooo big?  great score & i'm very curious about horsehide. will be fun to watch your boots earn their patina

nope…figured a UK9 is the perfect size for viberg boots for me. it's one size up from my red wing or yuketen size where I take a US9 btw.
had the 4HS service boot (2030last) in a UK8.5 and they weren't really comfortable. the whole boot, most of all the toe box was way too narrow and slim and my feet hurt after some hours of wear and I only was able to fit pretty thin socks!

received the IH scout boot in a trade and it was a UK9 and the fit was perfect so I'll stick to that size for all of my future viberg purchases. thick socks are no problem, so even perfect for winter time!...

Anyone interested in my Viberg - Burg&Schild collab?
I´m thinking about letting them go cause they were a bit too small in the lenght.
They are UK 8,5, ice mocha/black tan.

                  Mister Mouse,
Vibergs are great and I have two pair of hiker 66 and just ordered a pair of the 68. I ordered the brown nubuck, no thinsulate and asked for  lighter midsole to make them more flexible.
The boots look great but I can't use them for hiking as they are so stiff. Hiking over rocks there is no flexibility or give. Anyone else out there use these for hiking?

                    Hi MM,

I'm afraid there aren't many pics about about, only a couple when you google search so it's down to imagination really. Think I'll probably stick with the Hiker 66 last.

                      Hi khaki8,
you mean Viberg call it hiking boot, but it's not really a boot for hiking!!
                      You mean that??
Ok, so I should think about to order this Boot for hiking!
                      Thanks for the info.

MM…..if you are hiking on ground that is smooth then Viberg's are fine. Over rocks they feel like they might break your ankle. My Viberg's are for looking good. I use Zamberlan for regular hiking. Nuvolao and Latemar...leather lined and designed by people who understand hiking. The sole is a custom made Vibram that has a nice flexibility...not bad looking boots either.

Not sure I'm too excited about Viberg implementing Goodyear welts in the not so distant future. Talked to Morgan a bit about it in the last few days… He's suppose to keep me posted on if this will be an option or the direction the company is moving as whole.

I do understand that this change will allow a more streamlined production and from a business standpoint seems to be a viable reason; but for this same reason I am not in love with the idea. I feel the things that seperate items like these are the certain characteristics like the sewn down uppers. I love this look ... Anyway.... Just a random thought I've been obsessing on the last few days

Maybe the Goodyear welting change will bring prices down from "totally absurd" to just "slightly absurd." And maybe they can set up a customization web presence rather than the bogus easter egg hunt that they have now. Just sayin'.

Personally I'd rather pay the price…. I think at some point when your spending this amount on boots you've clearly toed a line that your more concerned with the quality and craftsmanship than bargain shopping. Bare in mind this is just my opinion and how I look at it but I would much rather pay $700 + for exactly what I want and can hold on to for a lifetime than compromise to save a little bit.  Furthermore... With faster production comes a greater degree of error... If this happens what separates the company from the rest of the pack. The attention to detail and things that escalate the prices such as the hand made factor are things that provide for a tremendous degree of separation...

What about re-soling?  I know the welt facilitates this, how hard is it to do with their current methods?  I've never heard this method dismissed as being low-grade manufacturing, many of the best boot and shoemakers seem to use it. And it's not a newfangled industrial shortcut, it's been around well over a century. Just curious why it would be regarded so.

                                  Think it, be it.

Just to clarify I  not saying it immediately means everything is automatically going to hell in a hand basket, what I am stating is that there is a greater propensity for issues to arise when quantity produced be comes a major focus and machines become an over bearing power… The prime example of this is the industrial revolution... With a progression of more units produced in a lesser amount of time comes a much greater risk for error. By no means am I saying this will happen but I am saying that it has and does happen. On the fluoride many companies do use this with a great degree of success from what I understand. My personal experience with Goodyear welts has not been particularly left quite a bit to be desired. As far as resoling, I do t know the degree of difficulty between the two because I don't do my resoling either I send them off or take them to the local cobbler so its as hard as a drive to his shop or the post office for me! 🙂

And about price, didnt vibergs use to cost around 400-500 until they got more popular and they jacked the price to 700+?

That's a good looking boot with Goodyear welt, and they give reason why..

My problem with Viberg (other than the price) is the vagueness of how to actually get a pair. The first and only comment on that Goodyear welt post sums it up well: "i HAVE LOOKING ON YOUR WEBSITE IS NOT LISTED…WHICH ONE IS IT AND HOW DO I GET IT…PLEAS GIVE ME A CONTACT PERSON AND A PHONE NUMBER PLEASE"

                                          Exactly.

I Know that the Vigerg dude loves to hobnob all around the world. Collabs. Bro pics. Great, great, but how in the world do I get a pair? I mean…. take my money! Their marketing and sales are just terrible. Hopefully the bootbuilder interface will address this somewhat...
