Looks good from what I can see but, as mentioned above, a straight on fit pic would make it easier to tell.  I've always found with my Heron that it looks better layered under a shirt or sweater, rather than just over a t-shirt.  This seems to fill out the tube-body of the jacket better, imho.  Nice pick up.  Photos of the brown leather I've seen look tremendous and it will only develop more character with time.

I have huge boner for the 1910 Canuck Railroad Jacket.  Shit looks badass. I shot an email to Himel and they start at $2250.

I am going to keep it.  It does look good when it is layered.  I also recently adjusted the side straps, and it improved the fit.

a pic taken by someone else straight on would make it a lot easier to give fit advice. just saying

finally tried these on at Self Edge this past weekend.  Quality and finish was outstanding, ~~but the cut was not.  I probably could have gone down a size, but I dont think that would have eliminated the issues I found in the cut.  Bummer. ~~

EDIT** actually, I dont think its fair to assume that a smaller size would not eliminate the issues I found.  I should try on a proper size when they are available.

                    @Qinhan:

I may have something else to contribute to this thread in the not too distant future…

Just to make good on this promise…

This is my new Himel Brothers Canuck Jacket in black oil tanned horsehide.  I'm a big fan of David Himel's work and I can't tell you how excited I was to receive this jacket.  The style is derived from an old work jacket which David picked up made by the long-defunct "W. Shanhouse and Sons" company.  For me it epitomises old-school practicality mixed with understated cool.  Please find my pictorial review below:

I picked the burgundy wool liner and was pleasantly surprised at how soft and non-scratchy it is.  I also really like some of the details on this jacket such as how the collar and the adjustment tabs are wool-lined on their reverse side.  Other details include corduroy around the armpits and black cotton drill in the arms.

The quality of the stitchwork on this jacket is amazing.  I've got a bunch of leather jackets and was just blown away by the attention to detail.  Buttons, by the way, are vintage melamine.

Of course, this beauty is proudly made in Canada and comes with a cool union tag…

My (very limited) photo skills always desert me when taking timer shots of myself so apologies about the quality of these fit pics…

                    Thanks for looking!  🙂

Thank you for the comments, gentlmen.  I'm extremely happy with this piece.  It's the best leather jacket that I own (and I've got a bunch).

Davito, notice the Merz I was wearing in the fit pics?  Love that stuff.  Thanks for introducing me to them.

You're welcome, Monday.  Glad to spread some knowledge of this brand.  IMHO Himel Brothers represents the pinnacle of leather jacket craftsmanship.

I forgot to mention in my review that the horsehide is from the Shinki Tannery in Japan, the same source for all the Real McCoy's vintage jacket repros.

Thanks Chiba.  Haven't seen you round these parts for a while but notice that you seem to have become a regular at "that other place" for jacket crazies.

I wonder whether DH and JC have opportunities to order or commission special shades of HH from Shinki?
Probably not the latter, maybe the former?

It seems that brands like Rainbow Country and Freewheelers definitely have the former and probably even the latter.
                                        Hmmm…..

We need to do a tour of Shinki!
Or, barring that, it would be very interesting to see a catalog of what hides they produce/have produced.

I don't know, I suspect that ordering special shades is too difficult for the smaller operators like DH and JC as the volumes that they purchase are way too small.  This is just speculation on my part, however.

I'm possibly heading to Japan later in the year so would definately be up for a visit to horsehide-land or, at the very least, a get together to compare notes on jackets.
