      @Giles:

      I have talked about an 18oz LHT, I suspect it is the same stuff.  I will talk to H and confirm one way or another.

      Just to confirm the new denim is an 18.5oz LHT.  Where ever I have said 18, I meant 18.5.  I am typing this whilst sitting on the bottom step.

      Oh, and did I mention the 21oz Left Hand Twill we are experimenting with.

      Expect to see 666 and 634 cuts out of one or both of these at some point.

        18.5 LHT is sanforized, correct?

        And the 634 in these makes me happy.

                  So IH no longer uses the Zimbabwe cotton, but US cotton, guess that's a pretty interesting bit of news(?) …

                      Yes, I have to update the website….

                        Not that I care what H uses but I was surprised to read that he made the switch too.  Won't that change the softness of Iron Hearts denim quite a bit?  Or has it already happened and I haven't even noticed in my jeans?

                          It has happened and no one noticed, me included.  He specifies a quality and that's what he gets.

                            You can get high quality long staple cotton from lots of places.  The fact that Haraki could switch it and no one, including Giles, had the slightest idea of the change shows that the cotton's country of origin is overrated.

                                  I understand what your saying, and not trying to be a jerk, just wondering, cause he says specifically , HK:" When I started, Zimbabwe cotton was very famous in Japan. The quality was also very good, so I chose it. It has a long staple so it can be twisted tightly and it makes for good soft denim. If I wanted to make thick denim it doesn’t really matter if the cotton has a long staple to be frank."

                                  I take that as he doesn't need the softest cotton anymore..

                                      I hope I am not being way off here (and it won't have an impact on my interest in IH), but I would have much preferred to hear it first, more like a PR issue I'd say.

                                        Haraki buys the stuff he needs.  He specs it and it it meets spec that is good enough for him.  He did this years ago, he did not feel it was necessary to tell me because the end result is no different.  Had he told me, I would have updated the IH.UK website.

                                        I repeat, no one noticed, which included me.

                                        As far as Haraki is concerned, he specs and buys the stuff he needs to perform a specific function.  It's like when I asked him if the loop wheeled Tee's were loopwheeled, he did not know because to him it is largely irrelevant, if what he specs does the job, does it matter?

                                            Seems obvious now that as long as it is a quality long staple cotton it matters nought what the country of origin is, but it also shows how easily a perception or even a "myth" is created in people's minds, most of us myself included believed the signature softness of IH denim existed because of the Zimbabwe cotton, lesson learned I guess 🙂 …
