Not the Press, but here is a really good analysis of Japanese Denim.

      Thanks for hosting this Giles.

I'm Kevin, the author of this paper.  Hopefully it's accessible to everyone, I'm a managerial economics major and did this year long research as a side project.  It was weird doing research in the humanities/social sciences and I have to admit the lack of math, graphs, and charts made this difficult for me since my brain has been wired as an economist.

I would really appreciate any feedback/constructive criticism.  Thanks!

Is this paper still around? Would love to read it.

Thank you. Looks like a great read!

UPDATE POST READ: Yeah, it was an enjoyable read. Reading through the lens of out-side in, and exploring the edges/depth of the industry when compared against an authenticity framework  :-*.

So according to the link above Haraki is planning to do more with Kyia's specially designed 23oz.  Care to fill us all in on what that may be G?

Haraki is not planning to do anything with it.  Kiya commissioned the denim and we gave Self Edge exclusivity for that fabric. Kiya may have/has some plans for it, but it is not my place nor Haraki's to discuss them.  Not trying to sound like a prick, but I really can't discuss a customers production/marketing/sales plans/strategy.

the collab denims (almost) always show up in another form because the minimum amount for a run of a new denim is generally too much fabric to be used up in one collab jean, which of course are done in limited numbers and tend not to be re-run. the 19oz sexih07 denim later became a jacket and was used in a 301 cut and then in the sexih16. the sexfhxrjb15 denim is now being used in other rjb cuts. the sexih13 23oz collab denim of course was used in a jacket and a 634 cut for the seny popup shop. as to whether that denim is all used up or not, or whether kiya would commission another run, well you could ask kiya…

Two things in this piece jumped out at me:

                            1. "We were treated to a little denim education by the great man Haraki himself! He explained to us the differences in the fabrics they’ve used thus far, and gave us a sneak peak into the fabrics that would be appearing on shelves pretty soon… and what I thought was a very interesting 18.5oz left hand twill fabric."

Not planning to mention that one, Giles?

                            1. "Megatron’s Mega Beatle Busters… He’s a pretty big fellow, anyone present would know not to mess with that red bearded giant in a bar fight."

He called you an enormous fat ginger tosser, Mega. 😃 Hahahahahaha!

I have talked about an 18oz LHT, I suspect it is the same stuff.  I will talk to H and confirm one way or another.
