        @madmonday:

        now looking up blendtec & vitamix to figure out which one to get for tuesday for the practical-after-Valentine's-Day-gift.

        vitamix offer a ten year warranty, sh!t wish i could get a warranty on my denim.  that would be the sh!t

        monday I don't think you can go wrong with either. Blendtec are generally a little more low profile to fit under cabinets if that matters. I think the vitamix is a little more heavy duty and the warranty is great but truly both do the job (for us thats making kale shakes) really well. Don't bother with the ones with the fancy programs. On off high low is basically all you need.

            I've used both extensively. I have a Blendtec at home, and a Vitamix at work. I like the ease of use with the Blendtec. It never struggles, and gets the job done well. The Vitamix seems a bit wonky, has a plunger to move stuff around if it's not blending (Blendtec doesn't need this because the vortex it creates sucks everything up), and it's really loud.

                I've suffered with allergies for a couple of years now, but it was never narrowed down exactly what I was allergic to outside of possibly concentrated sources of peanut (peanut oil, peanut sauce), shellfish, or red food dye. Last night I eat all three and surprisingly ended up in hospital with anaphylaxis  😠

                                        I had something similar happen to me at a Phish show in Knoxville, TN, 2009. I was on the road solo because no one wanted to drive from MA to TN.  So I met up with a friend and we went into the show. It was the basketball stadium on the UT campus. A week earlier, I saw Phish at Fenway Park and ate a full bag of peanuts (with shell. It's my tradition to eat a bag of peanuts at Fenway, every time I go and shell them on the ground in front of me, so I step on them, it's like being in the dugout) and I was fine. At setbreak in Knoxville, I went and bought a bag of peanuts (with shell). I came back to my seat and started to eat them. To my left, I noticed a gorgeous southern belle from Alabama. So I'm kicking game and shelling the peanuts. After a little bit, I start to sweat a little, I didn't think anything of it because it was a concert indoors in the summer, in the south. Then my eyes feel like they are swelling shut. I feel my eyes and the glands on my lower eyelid seem huge. I rush to the bathroom and my eyes are swollen shut, my nose looks like a clown nose and my forehead and neck were swelling. I found the closest usher and asked where the EMT was. He kind of brushed me off, like I had done too many drugs, but I was fairly sober. I told him to "look at my fucking eyes!"  Once he did, he grabbed my arm and brought me to the EMT. Of course they told me I was allergic to peanuts, but to this day, I eat shitloads of peanuts and nothing has ever happened. However, I cannot eat the skin on many fruits because it makes my throat and taste buds swell.  I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to a pesticide that is used on fruits and vegetables.  Even organic fruits and vegetables. Don't be fooled, pesticides are used on both, one is just OMRI certified.

                                            Mike, I'm the same man. I've had allergy attacks after peanuts, red food colouring and shell fish, and yet have still eat them all fairly consistently with nothing much happening. My attacks are so fucking random and rare that it's so hard to judge what will and will not trigger them.

                                            Weirdly, I never had a single allergy to anything up until I went to NY in 2010, and the first thing I did was buy a bag of jalapeno chips, cooked in peanut oil from the local convenience store, my lip came up like a fucking football and I missed the first 36 hours of my trip to a benedryl induced coma.
