"The best way of still having a formal shoe which you can wear in the snow would be to look at a different sole unit. There are a few great ones which come to mind! The most formal would be the Dainite sole, Paraboot latex sole or the commando sole (probably the least formal of the lot.) These soles can handle this kind of weather no problem and they insulate your feet more than leather soles. Leather soles are also damaged from salt, so keep that in mind."

1950 has more eyelets plus an additional eyelet at the top rim of the boot…

Thanks; I was wondering about that myself…

Thought I would share my two pairs of Vibergs with you all

The latest pair are a pair of Superdenim service boots.  I picked them up off ebay but got the sizing wrong.  They were a size too small.  I sent the boots back to Viberg and they stretched the boots by a full size and re-soled them for me with a Dainite sole and cats paw heel.  The boots originally had a Vibram Christy sole.

My first pair are now starting to age well and are showing some nice wear patterns.  I picked up a pair of the 4 Horseman boots and have been really pleased with them.  Real low maintenance boots, they get brushed every few weeks and that is it.

Cold weather has a few benefits, breaking out the Vibergs for the winter season is one of them.

There is no 'I' in team …............ however there are five in 'individual brilliance'.

great images.  i actually really like the first pair. what a difference a sole change makes.  think all my future boots will have that little tab pull for me to tuck the extra length of lace when tied up.

ddtrash & uwm have shown me the light when it comes to sole options on a great pair of boots.

Forgive my ignorance but how slippery will that dainite sole be during winter.. It's gonna be my 1st here
and I kept on thinking that the only option
is to go with lug sole? Please advice. Thanks..

From personal experience,  Dianite soles have fine traction when it's wet out, but once you've got snow or ice they can be pretty slippery…

I hear you Mike.. that's what im thinking. I've read it somewhere. But i dont have personal experience myself hence the enquiry. Was advised by a fellow friend of mine that one can always wear/slip the 'spike thingy' underneath, dont really know what they're called.

I have no personal experience. BUT anything I've ever read from anyone who has ever owned Dainite soled shoes or boots says the same thing: "very slippery on snow and ice".
