Forgive my ignorance but how slippery will that dainite sole be during winter.. It's gonna be my 1st here
and I kept on thinking that the only option
is to go with lug sole? Please advice. Thanks..

            @Shoreman:

How does a Dainite sole hold up to ice and snow?

"The best way of still having a formal shoe which you can wear in the snow would be to look at a different sole unit. There are a few great ones which come to mind! The most formal would be the Dainite sole, Paraboot latex sole or the commando sole (probably the least formal of the lot.) These soles can handle this kind of weather no problem and they insulate your feet more than leather soles. Leather soles are also damaged from salt, so keep that in mind."

From personal experience,  Dianite soles have fine traction when it's wet out, but once you've got snow or ice they can be pretty slippery…

I hear you Mike.. that's what im thinking. I've read it somewhere. But i dont have personal experience myself hence the enquiry. Was advised by a fellow friend of mine that one can always wear/slip the 'spike thingy' underneath, dont really know what they're called.

I have no personal experience. BUT anything I've ever read from anyone who has ever owned Dainite soled shoes or boots says the same thing: "very slippery on snow and ice".

Anyone have experience with the hikers? I'm curious to know if they'll soak through during the winter.

Ty for that..they have a great pair on there.  I convinced my entire family to chip in to buy me a pair of one of the service boots for Christmas.  I can't wait 😘 😘 :-*.  Now I just need to figure out if I want rough outs which seem to be a bit more pricey

DDtrash's pair would be what I would want if I don't cop the rough outs.  The current pair on superdenim doesn't have that toe cap like ddtrash's pair..are those an older version?

                                Hi Dirty Denim

they are indeed an older pair of superdenim Viberg boots.  They are about 2 years old now.

The boots originally had a vibram christy sole.  Page 49 of this thread shows some nice examples of the boot with the original christy sole.  I personally prefer the Dainite sole and Cats Paw heel.

Finding a pair of "off the shelf" service boots that are spot on for your needs is going to be tough.  The superdenim and 4 Horseman boots for example, are made in limited numbers.  Even though the 4 Horseman boots are a currently available model on their website they are still made to order which requires an approximate 6-8 week lead time.

My suggestion would be to contact viberg and get a pair of custom boots made, same kind of lead time I believe but you obviously get whatever you want.

The viberg blog is also a great place to check out the different designs.  It is a quite a dangerous blog, every time I check it out I see some new combination that is just so nice.

The service I had from Viberg when geting my boots re-soled was really good, I would recommend you get in touch with them and look to go down the full custom route.

There is no 'I' in team …............ however there are five in 'individual brilliance'.

They chewed up my heel the other day, so I am giving them a breather. I'll try and get some action shots by the weekend. 😃
