sorry nate, i was really asking my dude shoreman as i know he is up north & we have similar taste. i worded it poorly. i know shoreman will say an item is either overpriced or that he is into it.  noting like honest feedback from another consumer when making a large purhcase.  one of the many reasons this place is such a useful tool

Nate, I think MM knows his Viberg size. Pretty sure he owns like 12 pairs.
But, Freemans and Leffot usually have a few pairs of various makes available.

Viberg have a pair of very tasty deerskin boots on their blog.

Unfortunately they don't seem keen to sell boots in this style. I did ask. 😞

In terms of price, Viberg are more expensive than other boot companies, but I think that Giles's offer on the Smoke Jumpers would have worked out pretty competitive with ordering a similar pair of Whites from Baker's for those of us in the EU with VAT and import duties to contend with. I'm currently regretting not ordering a pair.

It's like MM said, the value of an item lies within the prospective buyer. I'm sure these boots are worth the money, and I am always willing to spend a little more scrilla than I should in order to support North American businesses with a superior product. I was just curious as to why to departure from the average $650 price-point.

BC is located on the other side of this quite vast country, so I don't think a trip is warranted in this particular case.

If you could afford them, I'd definitely scoop. I just don't like the idea of supporting a model based on price hikes just because a brand can. Then again, in a day where regular oxford shirts can fetch as much as $300 a piece, why can't the best work boots out there go for $850+?

Ultimately, at a base level, I'd likely prefer to have two pairs of Viberg's–a pair of boots and oxfords--than several pairs of either Alden or Yuketen's in varying styles.

I posted a link a few pages back about why the price change.  From what I got from it, Brett wants to go high end fashion more or less.  Believe it or not, he wants to charge more

Anyone know exactly what the difference is between the 1940 and 1950 style service boot is?  They look identical in the custom boot option…

1950 has more eyelets plus an additional eyelet at the top rim of the boot…

"The best way of still having a formal shoe which you can wear in the snow would be to look at a different sole unit. There are a few great ones which come to mind! The most formal would be the Dainite sole, Paraboot latex sole or the commando sole (probably the least formal of the lot.) These soles can handle this kind of weather no problem and they insulate your feet more than leather soles. Leather soles are also damaged from salt, so keep that in mind."

Thought I would share my two pairs of Vibergs with you all

The latest pair are a pair of Superdenim service boots.  I picked them up off ebay but got the sizing wrong.  They were a size too small.  I sent the boots back to Viberg and they stretched the boots by a full size and re-soled them for me with a Dainite sole and cats paw heel.  The boots originally had a Vibram Christy sole.

My first pair are now starting to age well and are showing some nice wear patterns.  I picked up a pair of the 4 Horseman boots and have been really pleased with them.  Real low maintenance boots, they get brushed every few weeks and that is it.

Cold weather has a few benefits, breaking out the Vibergs for the winter season is one of them.

great images.  i actually really like the first pair. what a difference a sole change makes.  think all my future boots will have that little tab pull for me to tuck the extra length of lace when tied up.

ddtrash & uwm have shown me the light when it comes to sole options on a great pair of boots.

Forgive my ignorance but how slippery will that dainite sole be during winter.. It's gonna be my 1st here
and I kept on thinking that the only option
is to go with lug sole? Please advice. Thanks..
