White's Boots

And Jamie. EastWest on the forum is starting to stock them in UK…
Interesting, does he have a shop?
Hi all, and firstly big thanks to G for the mentions, order and referrals thus far and thanks to Hajduk (Pierre) for the comment and order.
The website: eastwestapparel.co.uk (hope you don't mind the mention G?) is going to be open in about 3 weeks time. Small starts with White's but we are also in the process of taking on a few other handmade boot brands that are respected in these waters.
Suggestions always welcome of course ; ) There are 5 models initially in stock in all sizes that are a mix of Smoke Jumpers, Semi-Dress and a hybrid of both and very soon after it goes live I will also have the Build a Boot service up and running where you can choose from the various drop boxes and make up your boot (there will also be swatches of leathers and sole types etc.. featured so you can be a bit more informed) so if you have any requests then please let me know. I/ we are aiming to be as competitive with the stateside distributors as possible, offer a more localised service and cut out the import hassles.
The stock is arriving soon and if it's cool with G, I will post up again when we go live.
As G pointed out to me, sizing info is going to be the key and I will be putting as much info as I can to help on the site as well as being as responsive and informative as possible to your questions.
If you would like like any info before hand please mail me at: team@eastwestapparel.co.uk and I will respond asap.
Appreciated the patience if you've read all of this : )

Wish I would have made comparisons with all my other White's come and gone. It could have helped folks figure out fit. Oh well, here is what I have at the moment.
White's Semi Dress 10.5D (dress brown)
heel to toe internal 11 1/8"
heel to toe external 12 1/8"
width across ball 4 3/4"White's Farmer Rancher 10.5D (black smooth)
heel to toe internal 11 1/8"
heel to toe external 12 1/8"
width across ball 4 7/8"I didn't realize how nearly identical they are until I did this. The Semi Dress are a bit more roomy, and I don't know why as I think the two boots are on the same last. Single leather sole and celastic toe (which is now soft), on the Semi Dress, single mid sole/vibram 700 and soft toe on the Farmer Rancher. I wear 10.5D in most Red Wing work boots, 1000 mile, etc. Hope that helps

looking great Illum. Whats the leather on them?

Hi Jamie,
great to hear of that opportunity to buy through you!
As for the suggestions, I think while Viberg is slightly over represented, Russell Moccasin and Rider Boot Co. aren't in stock in Europe, afaik. Also White Kloud Japan is a very interesting brand, combining top notch craftsmanship (Edward Green level) with work boot antics like White's. http://whitekloud.jp
Japan has a few more interesting offerings, like Lone Wolf, Chaucer, Boots & Boots, that have no rep outside of Nippon.Good luck with your venture!

White Kloud is a great shout, they're a brand I meant to mention to G the other week but totally forgot.

Rancourt and Company and Quoddy both do moccasins and are highly regarded. There are a few places that do Quoddy, such as End Clothing. I don't think that Rancourt are represented over here, but they manufacture the Eastland Made in Maine and Redwing Handsewn collections.
Looking forward to seeing the site. I've been thinking of a pair of White's Semi Dress.

Okay, getting close I think to figuring out my Semi-Dress configuration, which I hope to order before too long. Here's what I am thinking, with still a few uncertainties:
-
461 last. I like the upturned toe.
-
Straight heel, 1/4" lowered.
-
Cap toe.
-
Natural edge finish.
-
Standard trim (probably).
– Still unsure about leather. I like the Black Chromexcel, but am just a little worried about the stretching and aging issues. Thinking of Black Oil Tan ("smooth") and Black Dress as well. Not sure about the matte finish of the Oil Tan, and breaking in that thick leather.
- Still unsure about sole. I like the looks of the 269, but am unsure of traction. Thinking also of "commando mini lug half sole" and the 700 or 705 half soles. In this regard, does anyone know if Whites does the 705 half sole with that figure 8 sort of stitching? And I am not clear on the differences between the 700 and 705. Finally, can anyone testify to the traction of the 700/705?
Getting close... Thanks for all the help.

Thanks nicecrackaction (was going to shorten it but don't want to be cheeky, no pun intended),
Some great suggestions there, I looked at White Kloud, they look very nicely made and I'm quite keen to get them, just waiting to hear. Appreciate all the suggestions as well. Notes are made and the research is in hand.
Appreciate the "good Luck" also.
Jamie.

Thanks Graeme. Quoddy do seem to be in all the obvious places but I'll take a look at Rancourt.
Just for knowledge we will have 4 styles on the Semi-Dress last in a mix of colours for stock.
Thanks again,
Jamie.
