Missed the closing ceremony, but agree that London came out of all this looking pretty damn good.

The marathon route was a tourist extravaganza featuring all the big sights. Cliched perhaps, but an awesome advertisement for the place.

Can't understand why Gosport didn't feature more prominently…

Two comments:
First, why does Ralph Lauren hate the Olympics so much?  The opening ceremony outfits were awful and the closing ceremony ones are worse, which I honestly didn't think possible.

Second, Take That closed the ceremony?  Is that the British way of saying, "Thanks for coming, now get the hell out, you wankers"?

Kitch patriotism, bizarre outfits, and performances by musical has-beens seem to be Olympic opening/closing ceremony traditions. It certainly happened in Sydney in 2000, and made most of us who live here cringe.

I'm sick of seeing the USA athletes in Chinese made clothing. One of the most developed countries in the world can't even get their clothing made locally. WTF?!?!?

Someone on here mentioned that to his mind the medal tables are counter the Olympic spirit, on the whole I agree, but no where near as much as I did after Atlanta in 1996…..(we got one Gold).....

Big congrats to London, the UK people and the UK olympics team for making these games so attractive. like always the media thought they were wiser in advance by bashing on certain topics (my personal opinion of course)…But as I use to say: in ya face mo'fo's.

I have to say that I viewed the current Paralympics (and have always done so with previous versions) with some suspicion.

I still have concerns about how the various categories are judged to be equal, but I am utterly and completely enthralled.  These athletes (on the whole) embody the true Olympic spirit and have me close to tears most of the time.
