sorry i've asked so many times.. but i'm still really lost on what leathers to get. i'm looking for a brown leather that can take alot of beating and will still remain beautifully brown.

Do you want it to remain more new looking or age over time?

i guess age. but i'm not sure if it could hold up with my usage. my red wing 9111s are covered in scratches from daily activities.. and i'm not the most careful with my shoes.

I think the dress leather is the best over time. As far as what can take a beating the best? Anyone?

For a beating, definitely, 100%, dress leather. The only problem is that it is so dark, it is almost black, but it does age really well.

Try PM'ing Ed (Demonito), I know he rates the smooth leather too, and I know people also like Bullhide for durability.

Difficult question, which depends mainly on how often, and what you treat the leather with, and how long you are willing to age them.

I've noticed with wear the brown is starting to peak through on areas that are getting scuffed.

I still go with brown dress, but I have absolutely no experience with the horsehide, only what I have read.

I think horse hide is slightly more durable, but in boot applications, I dont think it would make much of a difference.  I also think the grain structure on HH is a bit tighter than standard cow.
