Agreed. The Isid'or is inferior to the Tripel by La Trappe, which itself isn't THAT good either…

Seul, have you tried the Chimay Triple Cinq Cents yet? It has a yellow label and a cork lid.

            BTW, love this pic

The La Trappe tripel is pretty good, but not up to par with the big boys (read: Belgian boys)… And no: haven't tried that Chimay yet, seren.

              Getting ready for tonight!..

I'M IN HEAVEN… This stuff is PEHNOMENAL... Bloody expensive (8.6 €; but keep in mind NOTHING costs more than 1.5 €/ bottle here), but worth it... This new(ish) oak aging process is brilliant!..

a little Belgian taster…..already know what the Westmalle  (excellent) and the Vedette ( nice and crisp) are like, so started with the cheapest the strangely named Kwak. got to say it's a bit less refined and a bit too treacle-ish. so now on the St.Bernadus., mmmmmmm.

All from my local beer shop, (which btw you can 'like' on Facebook, follow on twitter and all that! 😉 )must put in a request for triple karmeliet.

If you go from Kwak to the Abt 12, you'll never drink the previous again. And I can't blame you.

Well, just finished the Abt…great stuff. already decided wasn't going to go for the Kwak again.
Quick question Seul, forgive my ignorance, but what does the  dubbel/tripel/quadrupel refer to?
oh I forgot, I had the Chimay the other night too, nice, tasted a bit darker ......possibly?
                            here's a link to the shops Belgy-section http://www.stirchleywines.co.uk/index.php/the-list/imported-beer/belgium-beer
I like how they list it by brewery.
got me a nice 330ml and a smaller Westmalle glass too…....right, what's next?

                              _La Trappe Dubbel

An authentic Trappist beer with a deep red-brown colour. Through the use of a.o. caramel malt, it has a soft aromatic, caramel-like character. A little bit sweet in taste with a fresh aftertaste.

7.0% vol. alc., pouring temperature 10-14 ºC_

                              _La Trappe Tripel

A special and powerful Trappist. Including the use of coriander owes it its spicy character. Golden in color with a fruity, bittersweet taste.

                              8% alcohol, serving temperature10-14 °C_

                              _La Trappe Quadrupel

A unique Trappist beer that is even put to rest sorted by year in the cellars of the abbey for further fermentation. The strongest beer of La Trappe with a beautiful amber colour. The warm taste is full and well-balanced. A little bit sweet and pleasantly bitter. La Trappe Quadruple is also fermented in oak barrels.

Since 2008, we also age La Trappe Quadrupel in oak barrels. This gives the oak-aged Trappist beer an even fuller taste with a special wooded scent, which is comparable to wood-aged red wine. Starting June 2010 La Trappe Oak Aged is available in bottles of 37,5cl and exclusively for sale at the store at the brewery.

10% vol. alc., pouring temperature 10-14 ºC_

                                Thanks, but  I was wondering was wether it referred to a brewing process or something but apparently;

"tripel:(from wikipedia) The two main theories are that it indicates strength, either by a series of marks, such as crosses, on a cask - X for the weakest strength, XX for medium strength, and XXX for the strongest beer, or by reference to theoriginal gravity of a beer which roughly corresponds to 3% abv, 6% abv and 9% abv."
