Samurai Jeans
-
I've recently developed an interest in Samurai jeans, and the urge to get a pair is growing daily - most likely the 710 or 5000 cut (although the 0500 looks great too).
I can't find much info on the difference between the denim of the 710xx (19oz) and the 710VX (17oz "Blue Shadow").
Obviously there is a weight difference, but what else? Not just wear characteristics, but shrinkage/stretching behaviour too. Also, has anyone got experience with the 24oz Samurai denim that they could share?
More questions to follow….
Cheers!

I have the 24 oz. S5000VX RnR, they're pretty damn heavy…Being raw denim they tightened up a bit after
the first wash and stretched a little in the waist after about a week. I wore them for nearly a year before
washing them again and they tightened up a lot more after the second wash.
They're a 34 waist and are a 33 now, length is about a 34, tagged length is a 36. The denim bleeds like
crazy on these too, a lot of my brown boots have blue rings around them now!
They are 27 oz. after the washings and starting to show some marbling evo, I need to post some pics of
them as they're looking pretty good. -
I'll try and get pics up this coming weekend Flash.
-
looking forward to that BH!!!

They're looking pretty good b_F, you'll dig the pics.

I have no experience with the XHS (just tried them on) but the 24oz is forgiving. Mine shrank from 34 to 32 and stretched out to 34,5. But yeah…if I could do it again I would take the size 35. You don't want to have skin tight 24oz (or heavier) denm.
Fit pic:
I'm glad I lost some pounds simnce so they are more comfortable.

thx!
the 24oz is definitely tougher than the 17oz version but still forgiving (in my eyes)
hehe

first off: "problem" with Samurai denim is, that it changes slightly over the years…some years are more slubby, irregular, hairy and other years are less.
-
the 19oz denim used on the 710 fades rather fast and it's more easy to get high contrast fading.
-
the 15oz Texas Cotton denim also shows lighter blue hues after some wears but then it takes longer to remove more indigo from the thread. it's harder to get the same high contrast fades as on the 710 on the 0500.
due to the slubby texture of the 19oz denim, more of the white weft shines through, giving the 19oz denim a lighter color compared to the 15oz denim
I like the darker color of the 15oz denim better and especially the texture of it on my 0500 from Lot.11 but the 19oz denim is a very tough one with great fadings abbilities which is a plus for the 19oz denim.
keep in mind: it changes slightly over the years. my favorite 15oz denim is from Lot.11 (I own 3 other ones) and about the 19oz denim..I own 2. One from Lot.14 and 1 from Lot.10. The Lot.10 is darker but the pair I own was one-washed so that might have caused the difference.

I prefer the 24 oz. denim as opposed to the 21 oz. used in the S510XX, the 510 seems more stiff and
abrasive. I've only washed my 510's once and they're still very unforgiving. I got a 33 and they shrunk to a 32
which are tight on me so they get get very little wear.
I prefer the fit of the 5000VX, more trim and a lower rise. Both my pairs are from lot 14. -
I love the 21oz VX denim, I have the 5000 cut. Beautiful fading properties, takes about a year to soften up though.
My favourite Samurai denim is the "old" style Jin Denim, but the cuts available in the old style denim are just too wide for my taste.

As I said in the other thread..that's a excellent 510 fit…if all guys would get away with this fit, the 510 would be way more popular around here/Sufu/etc.
edit: no problem Alex! If you wanna chat about Samurai you are always welcome to PM me

inspired by Alex I put on my 510XX21oz and I have to say…his pair fits so much nicer!
And to add..it's way too hot for these right now
I look down in shame
