What I find particularly interesting is to look at this in context of the Levi's law suit.
A lot of the Japanese brands had to re-consider their "international" approach as a consequence. Some decided to not re-consider and focus on the domestic market only.
I think IH put the right changes in place.Lately, some of the Japanese brands find themselves in that same position where they are getting copied or at least part of their "intellectual property" - registered or not.
Let's see how this one here turns out.
Being part of the garment and sourcing industry I have to say that fabrics and cuts are getting coppied every single day. Only the big brands have the resources (time & money) to protect their interests and go after copies in a legal form.
As long as things are not marketed under a "stolen" brand name it will be difficult to take legal actions. Legal protection for patterns and fabric (patents) are not common - they are expensive and often useless if you can't afford the follow-up cost.

I don't think they're advertising it as IH. Gun just seems to have gotten himself a roll of the regular IH denim and the sbg denim. It looks like its for some contest

They are not advertising it as IH, though I am fairly certain it is. I have dropped Gun a couple of emails which he has not replied to and I am pretty pissed off that he is ignoring me. I am sure that he bought the stuff in all innocence, but Haraki and I are desperate to find the source…..

I found out where the denim were from.
About 6 rolls of denim Mr Gun has were from the mill that is making IH denim.
Those are inferior fabrics which we call "rank C" quality.
We classify our fabrics into rank A, rank B ( a good part can be used
for products ) and rank C ( so bad that none can not use for products )This time, our C fabrics happened to mixed with another oz denims.
The company buying inferior fabrics in Japan bought those fabrics and
somebody bought in Thai.I just discussed about this with Mr. Ono TSS.
He promised our IH denim (includes 21oz) never sold to anybody from now on.Could you please state this to our customer at forum?
These are IH denim. but these are "rank C" denim which never used for
our products.
From now on, our denim will never be sold to anybody even if it's poor
quality fabric like "rank C"We are very sorry for the problem. I will take care severely and be
careful not to happen again.H_

The funny part is that IH Grade C is probably better than Levi's Grade A.
Ha, ha, that's real funny and true (perhaps)…..
So my next question: What is going to happen to this bolt of fabric? Seems like it is a huge waste,..... but of course as in any manufacturing processes, there will be QC and rejects. -

Seriously though, I am confused now. I was considering buying a pair of Artist jeans before this recent development. Now I don't know.
On one hand it's a shame to see IH denim escaping the IH precinct. On the other hand, I can't blame the guy for trying to get his hands on good denim. At least he's not making fakes and passing them off as IH.
Anyway, as Giles said, no witch hunt.

Gun is a good guy doing something we'd all probably like to try. I bought a pair of the original skinny model he came out with and was happy with what he promised. The only reason I won't wear them is they're too damn skinny. The man clearly saw an opportunity and went after it.
