I haven't started to get nasty yet, this is still a polite discussion between a disappointed customer, and a disappointing retailer.
Your story is great Rocket, and I fully understand why you would go to such extreme measures, here's my story.
Mini claimed that I have anger issues
thats what I mean, you were very polite with your letter in my opinion, I tend to get mad quicky if people waste my time only because out of pure stupidity, thats also for the anger issues
And I would not call this a extreme measure, this wanker (Giles ;)) owed me something of around 3000 quid at that point… but to make this clear I def do not recommend to do this, you never know in fact who will open the door... could end ugly...

So JT and sons got back to me, they asked me to phone them to discuss "issues" with my boots. After 6 calls I finally get to speak to the main man, who politely but a bit snottily informs me that he can't attach the soles that I want as the welt on my semi dress is a fake welt !!!!!
After I inform him in no uncertain terms that it is most definitely NOT a fake welt, that they originally had a single leather, which was indeed stitched through, he then goes on to say that they cannot stitch the soles on through the welt stitching holes, as it would "look a terrible mess". By this point I am losing the will to live (£140 down the shitter so far), so I then offer to source a Vibram sole, that can be fitted as full sole, and email him the name and product code of my chosen sole, for them to obtain and fit. This is meant to be a quality shoe repair company, established for over 100 years !!!!! And now they want advice from me with my sum total of precisely fuck all experience in shoe repair !!!!!
Am I wrong here, or does this reek of incompetence?

mega please get the boot taken care of at White's here in the States. feel free to pm me & we can chop it up on how you want to handle it. please have those folks refund you for your time & trouble & scream to everyone you know not to take their business to them. that is really poor customer service & just nasty in general. f^ck i would also file a complaint with the local better business bureau or who ever these sorts of complaints go through in your part of the world. you are wasting way too much time & energy on this when you could be playing with legos, gardening & playing videos games.
tbh, reading the sh!t they are doing pisses me off & makes my fingers go all numb & stuff. . . although that just might be my blood sugar needing regulating

But yes, point taken. I had just posted about this in the shoe thread on SUFU and said exactly that. I'm going to get the boots sent back, and get them sent over to Whites for a proper resole.
I'm guessing that there will be an issue with that too though

Mega, if they give you any trouble (including a refund, which you clearly deserve), make sure you fully look up your rights on the consumer rights and trading standards websites, and mention any specific regulations they might be in breach of in your correspondence, in particular relating to distance buying which should be covered by this, especially if they have a website advertising their services. Some retailers are actually quite terrified of the various consumer rights bodies, and it never hurts to threaten making it your hobby to report them to everyone from Watchdog to Which?

Thanks Michael, I will await their response to my request for my boots returning, plus refund, but if there are further issues my next move will certainly involve threats of reporting and legal action.

Hey Megatron, you may want to give Whites a heads up before you send them the boots. Tell them the story and send them pictures before you send the boots. Some shoe manufacturers may not take back their shoes for refurbishing when they were done by an incompetent third party…..

The boots are on their way back to me, along with a full refund. I'm actually going to put them up for sale on eBay, and use the money towards some new SD's

In the latest Episode of Justified Dickie Bennet was wearing Whites SD's when he was released from Prison, and Boyd Crowder was wearing Smoke Jumpers in the scene in the Sheriffs office.
