Oh man, I want a X100 so bad. I love to shoot with manual settings and 35mm lens. No need for a DSLR.

Woah, wonderful stuff again, Chuck! Have you ever looked at the Sigma DPs? I've got the DP1, and while it is a quirky little sucker, the picture quality is outstanding plus it it's really nice to shoot in manual. Two or three buttons and a little focus wheel (AF is quite horrible), which is very nice for zone focussing, that's all. Not once have I used auto since I bought it. A challenging cam, but if you shoot an old 6x6 folder you are definitely not afraid of this.
High Isos do not look that great but the noise has a very nice grainy feel to it, especially in b/w. Another disadvantage is that you really must shoot RAW and that you have to use Sigma's program for processing these. On Ebay Germany those can be had for 150-250 if you look around, for me it was worth all the trouble.

Thanks for the nice comments. Today some pics of my manual SLR Praktica MTL50 with the zebra CZJ Pancolar 1.8/50.
The pics were from vacation in Croatia last summer. Maybe some of the best pics I ever made. I hope you will enjoy the overload.

I agree on the manual-controls + prime thing. I use a nex-7 these days, and on fullframe (i use a d700 for that) I love a dual lens setup with 35/1.4 and 85/1.4. Hard to replicate the look I get from those on a smaller sensor. ach!
This is why I want a FF camera. If all goes to plan I won't have to sell off my 35L so this way I can use a 5D MK II, 85L and 35L.

think i will give her a test drive & see if she works for me. might also try to start reading up on photography a little more, yeah i say i'm going to every few months, but i have incentive as the sbg world tours are going to show up any day now.

The x100 I would personally not recommend as a first camera (note: I have no experience with it..). But I think the best way now a days to figure how to work with a camera and learn on a camera is a DSLR. I'm not saying the x100 is bad but I don't know if that's a beginners camera. I would personally want to know how Aperture, ISO, shutter speed all correlate with each other before buying that camera. If you don't know what any of those are or how to properly set up a camera with those settings I would definitely look into investing in a moderately beginner DSLR + 50mm prime or 35mm.
Anyways as for me.. I have made two HUGE purchases over the past few days. First, I'm getting a 5D MK II finally! :D!
second, I'm getting a Gitzo 3340L, so I'm super psyched. Unfortunately I got rid of the 35L to get the 5DII, but I was going to have to sell it in the long run since come this fall I have to get a 70-200 to take sports shots for my school. -
