    @Graeme:

    Thanks @Tempvs.

The deposit was probably paid on a Visa debit card, but might have gone on my AMEX card. I'll have to find the receipt tomorrow to confirm.

On a slightly different note, there's a piece up at the Register on smart watches. Sounds like they're not too impressed. Then again, I'm an IT nerd and I haven't seen any point in them yet.

My wife is looking to get one, seems like a good idea for her. She keeps her phone in her purse and it's not always worth pulling it out every time it pings (and we both think it's rude to have your phone at the table during business dinners). Also useful when her hands are busy (i.e. minding the grand baby, pulling luggage, goofing with the dogs).

I won't get one, I'm too enamored with the romance of a mechanical watch, but I can see how it will help her out.

And while I loathe the idea of an Hermes version, she loves it, and I love her, so through the transitive law…

The Sub is a great watch. I like them on the bracket the best. Non date model has the cleanest dial and purest look to it.

Yep.  I love the bracelet too.

So many chances to make other hand jokes just missed.

Ben2t - I can highly recommend the Black Bay, but you've probably already seen my gushing on this thread. It's a great watch.

Qinhan - the bracelet looks best to me. I love the look of a really dinged-up and worn-in bracelet on a Sub.

Cant go wrong either way Ben. I have owned both and still have the BlackBay if that means anything.

@ben2t  - Your photos aren't showing very clearly for me but I gather the second one is a Rolex sub?  Love the "Blue Bay", by the way.

@Sugar Mountain - Any thoughts on preventing bracelet stretch?  I've read that using an ultrasonic cleaner to keep any nasty abrasive material out of the joints is the best way of ensuring the bracelet links stay nice and firm.

I prefer the Ranger to the Black Bay.

Regarding bracelet stretch, I don't have any tips. I take a more laissez faire approach to watch maintenance!

A quick Google reveals that bracelet stretch on stainless steel is down to wear. So one piece of advice was to clean it, for example with an ultrasonic cleaner.

Or you could just get it repaired eventually.

Just copped an ultrasonic cleaner online so I'm really curious to see what type of funky weirdness it manages to remove from my watch bracelet.

Or strong-arm me into buying a watch from them in any case. Thanks for your support.

Still, it's sorted. Well, nearly. Now I've got to figure out what I'll buy instead…

If I was sensible boring then I'd get a Rolex, probably the Milgauss. The new METAS rated Omegas appeal. The Globe Master is something that could be dressy or casual, but I probably wouldn't be able to resist one of the new, titanium Ploprofs. 😃
